John Currie of K State Hired as AD

I don't know anything either Behr, just sharing information. Had no idea there was anyone opposed to Currie.....recall his named being mentioned awhile back briefly, but then nothing. There was obviously also a "anybody but Blackburn" faction as well which is just crazy imo, so who knows.

And I appreciate it. Obviously I have no idea, but it seems there are some personal feelings and "financial" egos involved in this and that's not always a good thing.

Anyway, like you said, who knows.

Hyams also said on the radio that this guy wasn't really liked when he was at UT and thinks that the Chancellor did the hire and no boosters had a say. Saying Peyton was on the search team and no way that Peyton would of voted for this guy over Fulmer or even Blackburn. He went on to say that a lot of people were not happy with this hire. I bet the Chancellor was sent to UT from Russia or the NSA to completely destroy the program. I thought the ones that were already in place were doing a fine job at it.
I bet this Chancellor wont last 2 years.

Chris Low

1. Not a unifying hire...."if TN brass was looking for a unifying hire, this anything but..."
2. Hamiltons right hand man
3. Was point man on unifying boosters in effort to push out Fulmer in 2008
4. Doesn't have good relationship with Bill Snyder at KState
5. Has done some good things
6. Great fundraiser
7. Blackburn wasn't at top like Currie on Hamilton staff .... Currie was Hamilton's "bad cop", rubbed some people wrong.
8. Blackburn wasn't formally interviewed, said many former players and alumni who favored Blackburn feel like they've been slapped in the face
9. Has heard from KState people who are "jumping up and down, are glad to be rid of Currie"
10. Wonders what Butch is thinking about this hire.
11. If Currie gets football deal right, all will be forgiven
12. Gotta get prominent Tennessee people involved....might even see Peyton at presser on Thursday
13. He has his work cut out for him.

After what Hyams said , I would not count on that happening. I know Hyams has his moments but he has more info than volnation does even if he is late on news.

Chris Low should have elaborated on #5 a little more and given his comments more balance. It seems he just wanted to emphasize that Currie was Hamilton's boy and won't be universally liked... and as for #11? I mean, no f***ing s***, Chris! Did you spend a lot of time on that one?

Just a guess, but KB probably just posted highlights.

If he was the point guy for Fulmers firing, does anyone really think Peyton was a yes vote for Currie?

I don't, and I'd really like to know what Peyton has to say about this.

Lol, sue me, I'm a Peyton fan and I trust him as much as anyone else involved with the football program no matter how much or little.

Yea, and maybe they are as qualified as anyone else, I just don't know and curious how concerned I should be about their opinion, aside from their donations.

Its similar to politics really. You have to be able to stroke the egos of the $, but also be able to make solid decisions that benefit your programs as an AD.

The AD needs to be competent enough to make the big decisions but savy enough to get guys with deep pockets to get involved, even if it may not exactly be what they think is best.

In a perfect world everybody agrees and the guy pulling the trigger is good at what he does. They both need each other to function at the highest level.

UT needs a unifying figure in that position. According to some they are still looking for that.

So Blackburn wasn't an young up and comer ?

I am not an expert on any of these guys and this guy surprised me as much as anybody.

Blackburn didn't have head experience like this guy, but more importantly Blackburn (who I was not opposed to) would have split UT down Blackburn/Fulmer lines.

This guy sounds like a competitive fighter who is a headliner in the next gen of athletic directors. The fact the he was hired above Blackburn or Fulmer and nobody saw it coming attests to that.

To be honest it seems to me they would have sat on this decision longer and let the current AD end his contract without issue before announcing a hire if they thought they could have got away with it. The current AD can now work us for more cash if he chooses to.

Love it for UTC. Sorry for Blackburn. Haslam was never a big fan of Blackburn. Didn't dislike him but wasn't a supporter.

Given most of the rest of his comments that was probably just a "not all bad" comment.

I bet this Chancellor wont last 2 years.

This is a sideshow to the ring side battle coming with the State Legislature over funding and all the stuff going on here with the pronouns, diversity office, etc.

Her opening remarks on campus were not lost on Nashville. She's very close to poking a bear. She has power but will always lose to the legislature.

Currie is a Wake Forest guy...Like Hamilton. He got his Master's at UT.

He was brought here under Hamilton, unlike Blackburn who was here putting his dues in prior.

Blackburn is family...Currie is not.

I hope he does well. Blackburn will, wherever he lands. Maybe he stays at UTC, but more likely he winds up at a P5, hopefully not SEC, program very soon.

Currie came to ut under dickey in 1997. Stayed on under Hamilton. Get your facts straight

No...Just don't care to do your homework for you.

Shouldn't be work for you. You cited them as the basis for your unease. Steer the less resourceful in the general direction...unless you made it up. Then please don't. I'll accept your non answer as admission to fraud. :)

From what I'm gathering, the Chancellor has F'ed this up. Whether Currie is the right hire or not, she has failed miserably with her "politicking".

But this is just my uneducated opinion.
