John Currie introductory press conference discussion thread

My cards are on the table, not crazy about the hire and nothing I've heard from either Currie or Davenport here has changed that.

It is a press conference. It definitely should not.

Davenport also declined to offer details of the length of Currie's contract. Not sure why that would be a sensitive issue.

I sensed a lot of sensitivity from her about this process. She was fine answering questions about the power T on the glass at Currie's home and about his sweet mother, but she didn't seem very comfortable answering relevant questions about the actual process. Just my opinion.

It is a no win situation. I honestly have no clue why she was out there for the press conference. Just let Currie handle that part and you are good.

Yeah. That was uncomfortable to watch

I thought Davenport seemed very likeable until she was asked specific questions about the process and then she became very guarded, I thought.

My opinion also.
Ready to tackle the fluff and nothing else. Maybe that will change later but that's definitely how it appeared today.

Fiar point. Didn't Dooley "win the press conference?"

Yup. I remember being on twitter and people talking about impressive and "down to earth" he is. Press conferences are interesting but you will never really learn anything.

I'm not sure I'd agree it's a no win. But if she's going to be out there, she should be prepared to answer legitimate questions.

But in hindsight, you're right, she should have just let Currie handle it. He definitely talks enough for the both of them. lol

Currie has only one of the big 3 programs going for him right now. Whether people want to accept it or not the FB program is the only one even close to being run competently. I see a lot of folks on here who are bashing the hire but he checks as many boxes as anyone else we heard about. Why don't we wait and see how it goes before going off the deep end.

He does check a lot of the boxes, you're right, being an active AD at a power five school. But for all of those who think the program needs unity, I think it's fair to question his track record as not being a relationship guy.

Chris Low said it well yesterday, it doesn't really matter if we like the guy or not. He'll be judged on four things:

1. championships
2. financial progress
3. uniting the Tennessee fan base
4. staying out of the NCAA's dog house

If he can accomplish those four things, everyone will love him.

I shouldn't be impressed and more open to Currie and Davenport after hearing them speak, explain the process they just went through and their vision for the program? I sure was hoping that was gonna be the case.

True. He does those things and we're all good. But unfortunately for him, given his history here, he doesn't get the benefit of the doubt from the beginning. He has his work cut out for him. Half the fan base is already looking at him suspiciously.

These press conferences don't accomplish anything besides giving us fanatics fodder for discussion that we can beat into the ground.

I thought Davenport was mostly likable, I just don't really understand why's she's on lockdown about the process.

I think there are a lot of people more important than fans who are looking at him suspiciously. He wasn't well liked when he left here and he's well aware of it.

Peyton in the house and smiling, so I'm fine. For now. 😉

And that's exactly why he was there. Don't forget a week before Butch was hired at UT Elway asked Peyton to call Butch to pump up the Colorado job.

Show Peyton and the fanbase will follow.
