John Currie has a plan...

No I think he has no plan because we've seen absolutely nothing to indicate that he does. Name one action or word he's spoke indicating he has a plan beyond upgrading the stadium.

All of my hopes with UT football is that he has been working and has Gruden all lined up.

He, likely along with the administration, appears to have concluded that its best to not fire Butch Jones during the season, but rather after the Vanderbilt loss at the end of November. I certainly would’ve loved to see Jones gone several weeks ago, but I’m also just a fan, prone to emotional response when seeing my favorite football program being run into the ditch. It’s not unreasonable, imho, to fire Jones after the last game/loss of the season. Like I heard Withrow on 104.5 the Zone say recently, “it looks like Currie has decided Jones is the best interim coach he could choose at this point”.

Currie is a new AD who is in the midst of making the biggest decision of his career....he HAS TO get it right. He screws this decision up and his tenure at Tennessee is significantly reduced.

For all we know, he’s made the decision already to fire Jones and has been back channeling his ass off for a month now so that when he fires Jones on November 26, he can introduce the next coach, who by the way he knows better damn well be a great hire for his sake, on November 27.

Let’s just the guy do his job, what do ya say? If Jones isn’t gone soon after the Vandy game, or God forbid somehow survives 2017 and is retained for 2018, I’ll be the first guy to jump in both feet calling for Currie’s (and everybody else’s) ouster up there, trust me. But imho, right now it’s just premature to say the guy is derelict in his duties and “has no plan”. Three weeks from now, however, it’ll be a completely different story.....let’s just get there and see where we are.

No idea if he has a plan or not.

What does seem apparent, is that our recruits (or, more accurately, former recruits) don’t want to play for our program anymore.

I really think that Coach Jones will be back next year. Wow. Can’t believe it either, but that’s where all the signs are pointing.

Oh well. I’ll be a Vol fan until I die. I just hope the pain stops sometime in the foreseeable future.

Cade Mays decommitted do to the product on the field not the uncertainty around Jones. A new coach is the only way they get back in it. They see the product on the field, retaining Jones solves nothing

How do you communicate that to recruits DURING a coaching change? Are players lining up to go to Florida right now while they’re looking for a coach?

You just made my point! What coaching change? Currie's SILENCE is deafening! The uncertainty is fueled by the SILENCE! Recruits and fans have not been given any reason to BELIEVE in this program and every day that passes it continues to get worse!

Agree. However, I won't be making any more donations, buying season tickets or making any 4.5 hour drives to Knoxville to see anything more than my family.

They've just taken the joy out of football. Heck, there's always the swimming, soccer and all the other sports Currie does enjoy commenting on.

Ain’t it so?

I saw something earlier today about the Vols maybe going to Shreveport for a bowl game if they get eligible. I was going to text my wife that we should go if that happens since it’s relatively close to her parents’ place in Houston where we’ll be over the holidays ... and then I realized that there was such a small chance of us getting bowl eligible that it was laughable.

This is killing me. “Hate” is too strong a word, but darn if Currie is making me angry for keeping us as a laughingstock. Maybe he’ll redeem himself ... but I don’t think so. I think Butch is back next season. God help me, but I do.

You have ZERO idea what is or isn’t going on behind the scenes. How would anything be different if we had an interim sitting in Butch’s place now?

If he doesn’t have a plan in place to upgrade the current situation he too will be driven out of the state of Tennessee. Mediocrity is unacceptable.

The recent departure has told some of his friends that he reopened his recruiting based on his fathers belief that CBJ would be back next year......so......

He reopened his recruiting long before today. He has already taken two unofficial visits to other schools. This began long before the speculation about CBJs job ramped up

You’re blind faith in an administration that almost never gets anything right is admirable, bill

It’s not blind faith. But I’m not dumb enough to put stock in recruits and bush league Twitter reporters having the inside scoop either. No recruit should be committed to Tennessee until it’s known who will be head coach next year. That’s just business. No bush league Twitter reporter will know anything about the next head coach until it’s announced. No current coaching candidate is going to come out and say he’s been contacted about the position. To believe anything about next year with any sort of certainty right now is just stupid. But, it seems rather clear based on the lack of actual support to Jones himself nor the denial of the hundreds of reports of Butch’s eventual dismissal that change is imminent.

He took visits before the Florida loss?

What on Earth does that have to do with anything? The UT AD didn’t decide to hang onto CBJ another year after the UF loss. Why would you decide to fire a coach after starting 2-0 then decide not to after losing? Worst logic ever

Also, it’s absolutely ridiculous and foolish to have any prediction about what this almost entirely new administration will do because of previous administrations.

Twitter

So there are those on VN and many VFL's that believe that Currie has a master plan, that has ahead of the curve and has a coach ready to go.

The link tells me he doesn't. I really think that we are all going to be blindsided at the lack of vision and direction our AD has.

He doesn't! He better start implementing a plan because UT is losing 2018 recruits faster than I can change underwear!

You do realize that that "bush league" report has broken some of the biggest stories so far in college football this year right?

Florida scandal, that bush league twitter reporter

Kendrick concussion story, that bush league twitter reporter

So if this guy is saying Haslam is demanding that we keep Jones, then you might want to pay attention to him
