UT Vols: Can Pruitt convert four-star potential into production?

Very good article. Makes it seem glaringly obvious that Jones could recruit but simply could not coach. I know stars arent everything but notice he is saying we will have an almost complete 4* line on both sides of the ball - at least to start.

This is the huge question that will be answered this season. Does Tennessee have talent but had coaches that didn't know what to do with it. This will be determined as we'll either be remarkably better on both lines or we'll see that these players were far less talented than projected in high school.

Alabama on its worst year in recruiting should still not get controlled at the Line of Scrimage by Utah. 2nd year or not, Utah was well coached and didn't get dominated.

Wasn't Urban Meyer the Utah Coach? I can't remember...

Kyle Whittingham.

I think it is pretty safe to say that the former staff was lacking in player development. I have a hard time believing that the majority of the higher rated guys signed in previous classes are busts. When guys like Richmond, K. Phillips, Taylor, Byrd, Kongbo etc. go to places like Clemson, Bama, FSU & OSU they get developed and improve each year but not here. I understand players can be overrated by recruiting services but not as many as we have had right? Hopefully the new staff can coach these guys up and develop them similar to other big time schools.

4 star doesn’t mean much. There is one player, maybe two on UTs roster that Bama had a commitible offer on.

What is a “commitible offer?” Below are some guys that held Bama offers. Are you saying only two were real takes for them? You know at least the Top 2 were for sure:

Wood-Andersen
Trey Smith
J.J. Peterson
Drew Ricmond
Callaway
Kongbo
JG
Tuttle
Alontae Taylor
Nigel Warrior
TK Jr

The star gazing Nazis are out in force. Evaluations from media English majors and kids who go to the right camps are VASTLY SUPERIOR to present staff evaluations.

The star system is not an exact science but it does mean something. Look at teams like Bama, UGA, and Clemson and where they finish in recruiting then get back to me. The teams with higher rated players tend to compete in the CFB playoff. However, you also need a solid coaching staff.

A very good article with John Adams name attached to it does not exist. Wasn't Butch suppose to to take him with him? JA is like herpes, you can't get rid of him.

It isn't a matter of getting 4 and 5 star players.

It is a matter of getting the RIGHT 4 and 5 star players.

I agree it is safe to say that CBJs staff did not develop players well. Looking at the position coaches on staff it is no wonder. I feel that the quality of the staff declined each year.

You have to ask yourself why. Could Jones not get anyone to work for him? Did he not get the money he needed to hire a good staff? Could be both. I am not willing to say Jones was a control freak and leave it at that. Any coach with a brain wants the best staff he can get, even CBJ.

What was going on behind the scene while CBJ was there.

Pruitt’s staff has to be better, they couldn’t be worse.

So let me get this straight, in this instance stars don't matter? The only time four stars means anything is if they have a commitable Alabama offer? Interesting:question:

If Saban doesn't want em, they aint worth having

How many ethiopians could you fit into a 62 Volkswagon beetle in 1984.

ALL of them.

That's terrible.

I knew a guy that was on a mission over there and told me about an Ethiopian boy that fell in an alligator pit. Said he ate 3 before they could get him out.

What is more terrible is how many years so many folk in that country have starved to death, and nobody has really done anything to fix that.

I just believe I have a twisted way of raising awareness. Still beats the Hell outta discussing John Adams opinion.

Bleated Messianically by OnlyGodForgives:

4 stars don't get it done versus well-coached five stars, which is what GA and Bama have. If the goal is Music City, bring on the four stars.

If only God would forgive for this post.

I would prefer not.

I don’t buy that a 5 Star is significantly better than than a 4 star after two years in a program given equal coaching. Some 5 stars just have better genetics, but I believe most just physically develop sooner. Many posters have shown the star ratings that get to the NFL and 4 star player do fine. Yes I understand there are many more 4* players.
I believe success is more about genetics, desire and hard work. A 4 can outwork a 5.

GA and Bama don’t have all 5*, just more than most teams. I would take a team of all 4* over what GA and BAMA have.
