Joe Osovet joins Vols

Actually, Jumper had more opportunities to make plays than any LB on the team.

He grades out the lowest of all our Lb's according to the pros.

Makes you realize how bad the last staff was at evaluating who was being effective at their position.

There is no doubt that Jumper gave his all, but he did not have the physical tools to be the type of lb UT needs to be competitive in the SEC.

He made some plays, but gave up way more plays than he should have.

It's not his fault, it's squarely on Butch.

Does NFL combine measure things like preparedness, ie film study, recognition, leadership on field, mental toughness, etc? Im just curious. Not defending Colton. Im asking bc i dont know. dont keep up with any of that.

Butch must have had a future business deal with Jumper's Dad because Jumper did not have the physical ability to be a starter in the SEC... It is comical to hear about his ability to line up the defense and then see him on his belly five or ten yards behind the play grabbing at air...

You are correct.. He was all -Vol.. But he was NOT a good LB. I am not one to beat up on a Vol player but....... Colton Jumper was not good! At all!! There is no way that anyone on this sight can convince me that he had any clue what he was doing. Can someone please tell me what game our defense looked like they were in position? We sucked against the worst completion we faced. Did we not?
He was the leader because CBJ was too damn stupid and hard headed to put the right people in place to be the best team we could be.
Please tell me if I am wrong .

you are not wrong at all....

How many former VOL LBs are on NFL rosters?

He came to study the rare Colton jumper and the psychology on why butch jones thought he was an SEC caliber player.

If Colton had the speed he would play in the NFL, he was one of the main reason we beat the Gator's in 16. I :salute: Colton he was thrown into the fire and gave his all.

Im sure Colton did all those things that a lb needs to do to prepare himself.

But why do you do those things to prepare? To make plays. To be able to stop the other team.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking Colton. He probably did everything right, but was either lacking the instincts that a lb needs OR the physical tools to be able to carry out those assignments.

The NFL won't pay you to study film or be tough or be able to line up the defense correctly. They want you to do all those things and consistently make plays.

A well trained mule will still finished last in the Kentucky Derby.

Up until last season it worked fine...The prostyle is outdated and boring and if you really think it will improve our offensive output you are dreaming.

Helton hasn’t been a part of any pure pro-style attacks.

Is that your impression of Purdue’s and USC’s offenses?

We don't have USC's talent and they don't run a pro style offense anyways...They rarely go under center...Purdue runs a spread...They will go under center near the goal line to use a fullback but that's about it...According to everybody UT will be running a pure get under center and pound the rock style of pro style offense..We will be doing nothing those other 2 schools do offensively.

Link to “everybody”. We’re going to run Helton’s offense...and it ain’t whatever you just said.

Intelligence has never seemed (outside a few skilled positions) to be high on the NFL list of desirable character traits - now thuggishness ...

I agree with your post except the Team 121 crap. That went out the door with Butch. I thought it was stupid from the get go. You don’t hear of any other program referring to themselves as “Team 155”

**On a side note dunking the football in a trash can and the awful third down song can go with it. I do like the Smokey Grays though.

I didn’t mind the Brick by Brick cliche or even the third down for what song. The Smokey Greys are great but should only be worn every few years at a Bowl game or something.

The Champions of Life, the trash can, and the how he called everyone “individuals” drove me nuts.

I hope Butch does well wherever he ends up because I truly believed he gave everything he had to the program. I hope he stocked the cupboard with enough talent for Pruitt to win 7 games this year.

Colton Jumper is/was terrible. Respect the effort the man put forth for the school but doesn't change the fact he sucked. The fact he actually played speaks volumes about the prior staff.

I'm ALL for the "3rd Down For What?!" song booming EVERYTIME our D is lining up for a 3rd Down play! Every 3rd Down - the stadium would be engaged, and on their feet. Felt electric in that stadium when that song hit. And not just the fans....but the entire sideline, and especially the 11 defenders on the field - all pumped up, with the energy flowing. Ready and pumped and most importantly - CONFIDENT when that song hit. If I remember correctly, during the "3rd Down For What" timeperiod, our Defense had a highly ranked (and respected) % of stops on 3rd down. I honestly never understood it when they stopped it and tried to transition to a different gimmick song, and then of course the infamous "turnover trashcan", smh. Before there was a highly popular "Turnover Chain" down in Miami....there was a highly popular "3rd Down For What" tradition goin on in Knoxville. We were the 1st to do it. A few other schools tried to grab on to it after they saw how popular we made it, and especially when they saw how it boosted performance #s. But we were the originals. Even had Lil Jon tweeting about UT. Had him on social media wearing Vols gear. In Knox doin concerts and giving shoutouts and team peptalks. We shoulda kept it a tradition in my opinion. Coulda possibly got a tad annoying to sum after awhile, but it woulda lasted for awhile I believe. Still gets me pumped now if I hear it play, ha. Everybody throwing arms around, and swaying to the beat, and orange blood pumping strong. Oh well. I miss it indeed tho.

I did not know much about this guy until he was hired, but it appears that he is really excited to be at Tennessee. I have liked everything I have read about him and it is great to have somebody passionate about Tennessee and willing to do whatever it takes to get us back to winning.
