Joe Milton - Every Snap Minn, Mich St and Indiana

I watched the snaps vs Minnesota, Mich St and Indiana and I gotta tell you this dude has major talent. He made some unbelievable throws on the run and can move around. The issues as has been documented is the heat on the ball and a few times threw into coverage (but all QBs do that sometimes). I have to say that the Michigan receivers dropped a ton of good passes and didn't get a lot of separation in their routes at times. Our receivers are going to be much faster this year I think. All in all I see why the staff is so high on him.

See for yourself:

I just watched the Minn. highlights and what I saw was QB that completed only 4 passes more than 5 yards. I'm talking line of scrimmage to point of catch, not yards after catch. He over threw a couple and threw behind his receivers some. He can run and move the pocket but if he throws like that for the Vols one of the other QBs will be starting by game 4. Just my observations. Like an opinion everybody has one. Go Big Orange

Interesting because I became more impressed after all the bad things I heard about him at Michigan. He threw well and scrambled well. His OL sucked and his receivers dropped a lot of balls and couldn’t get separation. And he was really good before he tore the ligament in his throwing hand
It was actually his non-throwing hand.

Reminded me of watching JG .. alot of over throws , under throws , throws to the defense and didbt look all that well running .. thought he would more physical runner .. hope he has improved or we in same boat if he starts

I don’t disagree, but I do think he’s better than JG. His throws into coverage are a bit concerning and he needs to work on his touch but his receivers also had a lot of perfectly placed drops.

So happy JG won't be taking the field for us. I am not down on Milton. Reports from fall camp sound amazing. I just hope that the issues at Michigan were due to a lack of development which Heuepel should be able to remedy.

He's talented no doubt and CJH has really been a good thing for him, but alot of those passes in his film will be interceptions with faster and more physical dbs. I've seen him practice and I came away impressed

There is no doubt that he has a talent, I just hope CJH can fix some of those issues he showed on tape.

Or one of the other Qb's steps up. I don't care who starts, just win!!

No it wasn’t. Are you basing this on that reverse image pic of him in a cast? Check out the Nike swoosh…it’s backward.
I have to admit it is confusing. I read a Michigan article that said right hand with the IG pic and then a UT article that said left. If it is a reverse image it has to be some app trickery because if it’s from a mirror it still looks like left hand

Michigan Wolverines quarterback Joe Milton has offseason thumb surgery

Can Joe Milton win Tennessee Vols football quarterback job?

Looking at the position of the hands and thumbs I don’t know how it can possibly be his right hand…even a selfie wouldn’t do that

The main reason I want him to succeed is personal. My father-in-law thinks black QBs can’t succeed in the SEC.

Every spring for the past 7 years he’s asked who Tennessee is bringing in at QB (he’s a Bama fan). If it’s a black guy, he’ll make comments like, “running QBs are good against average teams but you can’t beat bama without a QB who can go through 3 or 4 reads and throw the ball on a dime.” He was anti-Dobbs, pro-Dormady, anti-JG, pro-Shrout, anti-Salter/Hooker, pro-Bailey... I know better than to mention Milton.

Normally I want kids to succeed for themselves, but this year I’m hoping Milton puts 9 holes in the old man’s theory. One for each SEC game on our schedule, including the SECCG.

Don’t get me wrong. I do love pop. He’s literally my best friend, but MAN I’m tired of the white QB vs black QB argument.

Umm…Tee Martin. The national championship winning qb

There is nothing in those videos that show Milton as a runner. If he were a white dude, nobody on here watching that video would say he is a runner of great quality. I think a lot of you guys think he’s black so he has to be able to run. I see so many that get labeled based on color. Can’t throw because black but can run. It’s stupid. What part of that video made you think he runs any better than jg did
In fairness I only watched part of the Minnesota film - but he’s a big, physical kid - they had designed runs and sweeps for him- he actually gained yardage on those plays. He made first downs and touchdowns on some of them. Running- He is probably more or a Tim Tebow than a Josh Dobbs - but he is no jg - jg couldn’t run or throw. If you are going to make an argument- you are going to need to trot out a better player than jg to support it. all four quarterbacks are better runners than jg.
My comment was more of an indictment of JG as a runner that it was support for Milton as a runner.

(Looks like this has been discussed above, my bad)

I've seen this a couple of times, but from what I've read below, it was on his throwing hand:

"It's A New Me": Joe Milton Is Healthy And Ready To Battle For QB1 At Tennessee | Rocky Top Insider
(This article says it explicitly)

‘It’s a new me’ — Joe Milton III joining Vols with renewed confidence
(This article discusses how he "resumed throwing" at a time following surgery, the implication being that the surgery prevented him from throwing for some time.)

Michigan QB Joe Milton sports cast in social media video
(This article demonstrates that his right hand - his throwing hand - was what was injured)

PressReader.com - Digital Newspaper & Magazine Subscriptions
(This article discusses his right hand being in a cast post surgery)

I believe the misconception comes from the fact that the Instagram video (and the screen shots from that) are mirrored in a way that makes it appear that his left hand is the one that is in the cast.

Yeah I stand corrected.

All good dude, sorry also, because I didn’t mean to pile on. I was up way too late and hadn’t read the entire thread before posting.
No problem. I actually saw it in a tweet by a Michigan reporter, who later corrected the tweet. I just didn't read the entire thread and all the connected tweets.

Now that I've finally had time to watch these, I'll add my main observations:

So much potential. So much.
Arm strength is insane.
Big body can take a hit.
Can't run to save his life.
Good vision for passing plays, scrambling or designed runs not so much.

So, I'm hoping he's learning and growing in the game as any QB should with time and experience. I also hope he's worked on agility and speed drills in the offseason. Otherwise SEC D speed will be an issue when a play breaks down.

I'm excited about the future with this kid.
