Jimmy Hyams debunking Grumors

If money is the only factor then we need to offer Saban or Meyer $15M per year.

Of course $$$ isn't the only factor, and it should not be the only factor. But, if it WERE the only factor... would Currie and Company be willing to shell out the $15M you mentioned on an annual basis? I dare say, probably not, and not because they do not care about the program... but because they would not consider it feasible.

This Gruden stuff is ****. Unrealistic. Crazy. Jimmy is a respectable, credentialed reporter, and he's being criticized because he won't spew the rumors and join in.

What a bunch of ****ing idiots.

:clapping::clapping:No, John Adams holds that title. Why UT tolerates Adams is a mystery to me. If enough people including those that advertise would join together, he could be forced to out. Someone at UT needs to pull his press credentials.

I'm not on the Gruden bandwagon, but Jimmy Hyams is about the worst sports 'journalist' in Knoxville. And that's saying something.

Hyams knows what he's told from the AD and boosters period. If they want information or misinformation circulated he's one of the tools they use. IF Currie and big money don't want the fans to know then Hyams won't hear anything. Currie has a much tighter ship than Hamilton or Hart.

You're right. Gruden's avoiding conversation about Tennessee like the plaque as a "smokescreen" to hide that he's sitting on a runway in Knoxville, Mullen is continually stating he "loves his current job" because he really wants to "upgrade" to Tennessee, and Patterson is stating that "the best prayers are sometimes unanswered prayers'' in reference to not getting the Tennessee Job in 2008 because he wants to come here now.Yeah, things are different this go around.

So Nick Saban and Urban Meyer are not actually coaching at Bama and OSU?

What coach doesn't publically love his current gig?

Doesn't Hyams realize that he has to tell the Gruden fanatics what they are so desperate to hear, even if it has no basis in fact?

besides the point. I do not want a coach who was fired at Tampa Bay after going 45 - 53 in his 6 seasons after winning the Super Bowl.

That is all that needs to be said about Gruden.

I just choose to not read anything that he writes. He used to bother me but once I quit reading his crap it was not an issue for me anymore.

Not really much UT can do about who a newspaper hires.....he will be gone someday and maybe the paper can understand that having someone who is at least middle of the road fair makes more sense.

I think we end up with Norvell or similar. What about our program makes you think otherwise?

You could be right but I sincerely doubt it. Norvell obviously isn’t ready for an SEC job and I too come down on the Mullen side. Gruden IMO will never coach the Vols. But the reason I think we can hire a strong candidate this time around is the strength of the roster returning and the state of Tennessee has really improved with the quality of recruits even in the last 8 years...and money doesn’t appear to be an issue....
