Jimmie Kimmel Show gone !

Did the FCC ever weigh in on Roseanne's comments?

That's the perfect example of the way this is supposed to work. She said something her employer didn't like. She got fired. FCC didn't apply pressure or comment. Bc they shouldn't
do your own homework

The numbers are not bad at all for late night talk in his time slot. And from Q1 to Q2, Jimmy Kimmel Live! gained 24% in the coveted 18-49 demographic.

Late night talk will never get the kind of viewership that Carson, Leno and Letterman used to pull. It's a different time for television in the age of streaming services. We literally have thousands more viewing options.

they are bad overall for the cost of late night talk - Late Show is not replacing Colbert because 200,000+ 18-49 isn't worth the cost of the show. Kimmel was dead man walking (not saying that is why it happened today). Tonight Show may survive due to history but Fallon is probably dead man walking too.

It's about money. Period.
The timing of the cancellation, relative to the public threat that FCC Chairman Brendan Carr made, to revoke ABC's broadcasting license, suggests that government overreach played a role.

It's hard not to view Carr's threat as an infringement on 1st Amendment rights by the Trump Administration. I can't believe how quiet Republicans remain when these threats against broadcast licenses are made .... and Trump makes them all the time. It's wrong. It's authoritarian.

That’s exactly what happened.
Good excuse to cut a dead weight high salary
BS.

If Disney/ABC considered him dead weight they wouldn't have kept him around for 22 years, and hire him to host the Academy Awards on a regular basis.

They caved in to a threat from the federal government.

These same threats have been aimed at the view….as several people have already pointed out…..and nothing will be happening to the view. This was about dollars not the government.

Edit: have you ever heard the expression “what have you done for me lately “? Long running shows get cancelled all the time. This just gave them the opportunity to virtue signal while saving a dollar

completely unproven - Sinclair and Newstar moved first.
The timing of the cancellation suggests otherwise. If losing affiliates were the reason, they would have let that play out longer. This looks too much like a response to Carr's threat. They bent the knee. We are an authoritarian society now.

LOL - don't let any facts stop your narrative.

For the umpteenth time - Disney can settle this easily and say that it was FCC pressure that caused this but you and I both know they will not. I'm guessing you'll claim it's because they are afraid of the repercussions.

It's interesting to see the "say no cancel culture" crowd, fully embrace cancel culture.

I guess we can toss that in the pile with "fiscal conservatism" and everything else that you guys have abandoned to be MAGA.
Trump is petty......... But I think ABC might have had enough of this as well.

I mean the guy went out of his way to dig and add further insult to a murdered man by purposefully lying in a petty attempt to gaslight his supporters. It was a really dumb thing to do at a time when tensions are high.

I didn't understand what Trump was attempting to accomplish with targeting him, it was petty to. But that aside Kimmel is a punk for doing that, not much else to say.

100% agree. The market should have been allowed to work without the State sticking its nose in.
If Carr had just kept his mouth shut, there wouldn't be much to complain about here. I don't care anything about Kimmel or the cancellation of his show .... as long as it was completely Disney/ABC's decision, made free from government duress.

That's what you are taking objection with? The Daily Beast's choice of words?

The President of the United States just successfully cancelled a late night talk show over a joke he didn't like. LOL.

These are strange times we are in. 🤪
Why do you post stuff like this, which does nothing to actually support the point you're trying to make?

What was the "joke"? Please help me understand.

I didn't hear a joke... all I heard was a rant about Trump and incorrect accusations.

So much butthurt in this thread.
Yes, butthurt begets butthurt. What Kimmel did, purposely was a punk move.

That said, what Trump did in return was a punk move. But like I said petty begets petty.

When would have been a good time for you?
