I would like a NFL guy on staff. They’re light yrs ahead of college guys coaching wise and Tennessee appears to have recruiters and little else on staff right now.

Cheer up guys! I’ve made a list of the top 75 (mostly alive) offensive minds in all of footballdom and we’ve only passed on the first 23. So there’s still hope!

Agreed. The only reason people on this board has a woody for JBC is because he is a grad of UT. That does not make him a slam-dunk hire. If JBC had been a graduate of any other school we would never hear his named mentioned during the coaching search. Nobody on here would want him and if his name popped up as a possibility there would be a massive meltdown on here.

I’d take Jim Bob Cooter over Freddie Kitchens, any day of the week.

Please explain how success at the NFL level equates to college.

1)NFL coaches are far more focused on teaching the latest and correct technique as in the NFL, the physical difference isnt near as much as it can be in college. TEchnique is most important
2) NFL coaches scheme at higher levels than college coaches, have more experience reviewing film, developing new schemes, etc
3) NFL coaches demand more respect when they walk in a room to recruit than college guy that was a NW Missouri Tech 2 years ago
4) NFl coaches are light years ahead of college in game management, time management, etc. This would help Pruitt.

Each year, college staffs visit NFL teams during the offseason. Occasionally, a NFL staff will visit a college to pick their brain about something like spread offense but that is an exception. I think having a OC with NFL experience would be pretty good. If you want to continue with what they have had the last two years, go for it.

This thread is epic btw.

I have found Cooter at times can be very warm and welcoming and other's cold and unaccessible. It might help if we treat Cooter kindly, maybe buying dinner and some drinks first, but to get Cooter to open up and welcome us might be one of the most challenging tasks of all.

Dear Fans of Mr. Cooter,

We are diligently working to find a new officer to lead our offensive charge. While Mr. Cooters credentials are extraordinary and his name true with our customs, he is working diligently leading a former bulldog to slay vikings, the men from buffalo and a pack of men from Wisconsin. While he may be a great option as someone to lead our attack, he may not be the right person to lead our offensive charge to defeat the bulldogs, gators and elephants this next season. We are continually evaluating candidates to determine who will put us back on Top of this Rocky place.

Regards,
General Neylands Ghost

Success in the NFL doesn't automatically correlate to college. And vice versa. There is absolutely zero evidence that Cooter woukd even be a decent college OC.

Hell, there's no evidence hiring a college OC would be successful at Tennessee either. We've seen successful coordinators bomb at Tennessee in the past. Like Bob Shoop most recently. I'm only saying a NFL OC would bring a higher level of knowledge and coaching than the typical 3-4 yr OC guy in college. Knowledgeable football people would agree that coaching is better at NFL level than college. Obviously you don't agree.
