JG vs Harrison Bailey

But he don’t like taking chances. I think we can agree on that.

I don't know. It does seem that way.
I just think he's going to be forced to play him.

JG is just like that Miami QB. Holds the ball and takes sacks. He's probably going to get injured or pulled against Florida this year...
If his past history serves as notice. And Florida played a bit sloppy on Saturday, but their defense is legit! Every level.

no way that happens. JG will be considered one of the top QBs coming back in the SEC next year. Won’t even be considered a competition. He will come in knowing he is going to get a redshirt year with 4 to play.

Yep, we’re just going to have to hope he gets tired of 3 and outs, and losing.
If that happens I’m sure they’ll make a change but it’s clear Pruitt has no trust in either of them OR he’s creating “smoke in mirrors” to keep the competition alive between the 2 and behind closed doors a decision has already been made unannounced.

I don’t think he gets pulled in the Florida game no matter what tbh. UNLESS one of the 2 has played and played well in previous games. What I’m looking for is if there’s a “package” for BM or Shrout in the first 3 games. If that’s the case there could be something brewing. Let’s not forget that Trevor Lawrence played in every game sparingly enough to get an evaluation before the change was made. My opinion is if we don’t see BM or Shrout in the first 3 games involved in a package type of situation, no change will be made at any point until we’ve already fallen short of our goals. At that point (should it happen) then I could see the coaches making a change to provide a spark.

They've already got a package for Brian.
You saw glimpses of it in Fall. They will run read option with him. Up tempo. Just to have the defense of our opponents have to prepare for it. Provide a spark and throw off the defense. You could even see it within the same series.

Youll see a lot of stuff from Chaney. Remember he did all kinds of things for CP when he was here that one year. He'll get creative in attacking the defense.

You’re right. If we see it in every game leading up to Florida you may be on to something if JG struggles. If not my opinion is he stays in no matter what. But we’ll see in a few weeks.

He only had 12 touchdowns, but only threw 3 interceptions.. He completed over 60% of his passes and only surpassed 200 yards twice. That's as "game manager" as it gets.
It's hard to do anything meaningful with the ball when your getting drilled before you've taken your second step

I've been hyping Brian Maurer since December? Everyone knows this now.

Let me tell you something. Many people on here watched that UF vs Miami game lol.
Many who repeatedly say JG is the best option BY FAR on the roster. They watched the Gators D-Line get after it last night. I guarantee you they are starting to agree with me just a bit after watching that game.

True Freshman Brian Maurer is our ONLY chance to beat Florida this year and next.

I totally agree, JG will take many sacks, which are drive killers against Fla. Maurer is our best chance to win because of his running ability and I will ad his passing ability as well. He is a true duel threat.

Keelhaul is a bit hyperbole, but...yeah.

Look, whether it's a true freshman or a graduate transfer, the best QB is the one who shows it on game day. That QB got sacked ten 10 times vs Florida...he wouldn't let the ball go or run the ball enough.

I've said all I can about my opinion of Maurer, we're all just waiting for him to prove me right at this point. He won't start vs Florida... but he will play and will never look back.

Butchna, what I just said...is EXACTLY what's going to happen. He'll come in against Florida after JG is ineffective, and hold the starting spot until he graduates from TN.

I just hope he gets some meaningful reps before Fla. If JG plays the whole game they will steam roll us. It will be sack after sack with JG

That’s the experience that keeps him a starter?

Not the kind of experience I want as starter

I agree with you; but if they don't get to play a lot sat. A change should be made fast if we don't win big this Sat. If its a close game then i look for a 6 win season at the most if it is too close for backups to play.

That’s definitely something I can get on board with. I may have my doubts at this moment but let me be clear..... if he touches the field I believe there will be major changes. From fan support to recruiting and possibly even the roster. He’s not a practice player..... he’s a gamer.

I agree, he is a gamer, and apparantly JG is a very good practice player, in other words he knows the plays but just has not been able to do it at real game speed 11 on 11

In JGs defense last year he was constantly looking over his shoulder. A qb is the one position in all of sports that NEEDS to know the coaches believe in him in order to reach his full potential. He needs to know that when he goes to the sideline after making a mistake that he’s going to get coached rather than benched. Otherwise he plays “too careful” and I wonder if that’s where he was mentally.

Then again I’ve seen his stats throughout his career and in HS and I gotta admit they suggest that he’s just naturally conservative. If that’s what the coaches want then I gotta tell ya..... they have the wrong style of backups and recruits coming in because there is nothing but gunslingers behind him outside of JTS.

I actually do think it’s going to be closer than most believe. I watched GA State play NC state the other night and didn’t realize how talented they were beforehand. Maybe he just had a good day but their qb is no joke (only watched 1st qtr) and they return a boat load of players. Wouldn’t surprise me if it ended something like 24-21.

You lose any and all credibility as most coaching staffs do not have any packages set up for their 3rd string QB. You've right about Chaney mixing it up but he more than likely is dialing up plays for JG, Chandler, WoodyA, Gray and Q. They are working on BM not throwing the ball to the other team is the only package he's working on.

That’s what most dont seem to understand of why I’m so high on him. Most qbs are better at staying in the pocket or running. It’s an extremely RARE combination to be equally as effective at both. There’s only 2 qbs I can think of that are. AR12 and Pat Mahommes.

You keep suggesting he’s 3rd no matter how many times you’re reminded that they haven’t made the decision. Look at the depth chart! Until then you are the only one losing any credibility.

He's 2nd string.
3rd string is a walk-on. They released a depth chart yesterday. Keep up!

Coaches have packages all the time for players that don't start.
What are you even talking about...

Part of the reason Brian will have success is because he's got some guys around him that just need space and opportunity with the football.
Callaway
Palmer
Chandler
Byrd
Jordan
Gray are all good after the catch. You start introducing players like that to an up- tempo offense where the QB is a threat to run, and that really sends a defense reeling.

Actually, JG works well in this style as well. Less thinking more attacking. He just add the true running threat that Maurer does.

Unofficial and plenty of "or"...

Side note: Riley Locklear and Jahmir Johnson still weighing in way too low for a successful SEC offensive line.

Jamir is a hard worker. Just can't gain the weight. But he needs to play.

Big Guys like Carvin and Calbert will be coming along soon. Ryan Johnson is due to have a big year at Guard imo.

The Or thing Pruitt is doing is allowing competition to exist into the game season. These 1st 3 games allows real time observation with minimal risk of losing. Play them all! I think he knows who his guys are, he just needs to see it on the field...

I don't doubt the commitment of either of them, but starting off the season at 285, means they will end it around ~275 given the struggles of most offensive linemen to keep weight on through the season. If both of them are in the game at the same time, the left side of the line is going to be substantially weaker than the right, and our opponents will capitalize on it.

Agreed.
I think they are both back-ups. Jamir being a solid back-up.
