Je'Ron Stokes

I personally don't think it would be the worst thing in the world for us to lose a Stokes or Green because if receivers like Carroll or Brown or Jeffrey or Patterson see other recruits commiting elsewhere its just less competition which means more immediate playing time. It's a similar situation to the Oku/Giles thing. Oku definetely wasnt happy about us landing Giles and i'm sure he's glad that Giles is gone now (though he wont admit it). I'd trade off Rogers, Stokes, and Green for Brown and Carroll anyday. I would obviously be ecstatic for us to get everybody but its just not that realistic. Just my opinion.

Actually it looks like Giles was the one afraid of competition. Oku committed after Giles and has said he isn't afraid of competition. Giles bolted for USCe because they were promising instant playing time. Oku is exactly the type of player the vols need.

Giles said he left because of the Drayton thing. Giles was the one who liked the competition.

Stan is still here, so I call bs on that claim...he's got a me first type of attitude, and though I would have liked to have had him, I think we win out with Oku

I have a weird feeling we lose Stokes. Hope Im wrong.

I do see us picking up 1 or 2 other high rated WR's, that I don't think we would land with our old staff.

The article pretty much rules out the gators. It didn't even mention him. If we lose him I would rather it be in Big 10 country

I must have accidently clicked on the Giles thread...... no wait..... I was right...... this is the Stokes thread.

Anyways, I agree that lossing him to a BIG 10 school would be the best place to do so, but I would rather not lose him at all. His video highlights are impressive. I think he is the real deal and can become very good. This is an important recruit IMO.

Me too, I think we lose him and M. Brown. I hope we can reel in some of these other recievers.

I like Stokes because he has really tried to be the staple of this recruiting class. I don't blame him on wavering from his commitment. But as long as we land just one of the four high profile wide outs we're after it wont be a huge blow to the class if he decides to sign elsewhere.

Stokes will make official visits to Michigan the weekend of Jan. 16 and Illinois the weekend of Jan. 23.

“I’m going to try and squeeze in Penn State,” Stokes said. “I won’t take more than four visits. The other school is Georgia, but right now it looks like Penn State will be the fourth visit if I take a fourth one.”

The Nittany Lions are working on Stokes and hoping they do in fact get the last shot with a Jan. 30 trip to State College.

“Coach (Ron) Vanderlinden and Coach (Mike) McQueary came down to my school last week,” Stokes said. “We had a chance to talk. It was a positive visit.

“I’ll pray about things and see where God leads me.”

If he's a Vol on NSD, I will be surprised.

I bet alot of fans from other schools are feeling the same way about certain players. What do you think LSU is feeling like right now with Janzen Jackson? The only place that really scares me is Penn State with this kid. They came in awfully late in the action and I don't really see how he can turn us down with what we offer on O. But the kid will do whats right for him and sometimes kids make the wrong decision. There is one thing about TN and it goes like this.................

Me too. If you will notice, all these schools he is going to visit are schools his brother would probably be a fit at QB. I really believe that is his biggest reason he is looking around. He knows his brother will not be recruited as a QB at UT.

I wonder if he's still in contact with Thigpen---

“I know that Tennessee can bring in another great coach with the tradition they bring to the table and I’m hoping at this point the other recruits will be patient and stay committed,” Thigpen said. “I am very close with Je’Ron Stokes and have been trying to get hold of him so I can talk to him tonight about it.”
