We'll be okay. We have the right HC. It's going to take time. First, we learn to compete. Then we learn to win. Today was a tough lesson. It ain't over yet, aight?

Over/under remains at 6.5

Go Vols.

Sounded like an excuse

Yes, it did. But it also happens to be the truth. And Pruitt is still in the honeymoon period, so we'll let it slide. If Butch had said it, it would definitely have been an excuse. But for Pruitt, it's just an explanation.

Poor coach Pruitt, he just doesn't have anything to work with, this team playing their best won't win many games and it won't be Pruitt's fault.
Tennessee's talent is at an all time low, unfortunately

Not even close.

His wonderful, pith-filled postgame sermon definitely kicked this Saturday into the category of "most pleasant diversion." Here's to many more.

I really liked his rationale on going for it at the 1. He said something like "well, we started on the 1, and after three plays, we were still on the one. If we can't get it in from the one, then we've really got problems. It's about showing our guys we have confidence in them, and we want to be confident." I mean, he scored his very first touchdown as a head coach on a 4th down play. That's balls. You KNOW, and I KNOW, and everyone in here KNOWS that Butch would have kicked the field goal. That, to me, set the tone. And this team did not give up tonight. I think they're gonna build some confidence and cohesiveness over the next two weeks, and I think we'll be much different by Florida. I hated having such a tough opponent the first week, and it's the first time in 10 years we have started the season 0-1, but it will give us a good platform to learn from. And they will. They'll get better. I agree that West Virginia has the best PASSING offense that we'll see all year. We may see better rushing offenses in Bama, Georgia, but we won't see a better QB this year that slings it like Grier does. Our secondary is gonna have to step up...but is there another guy in the country you'd rather have helping them get there? Not me.

It'll be alright. Hate to lose. But we can't just expect the Butch stank to wash off after one game. Only a laundry machine can remove stinks that bad in 4 quarters.

Yeah....he's a hard guy not to like right now. Bottom line is we got blown out....AGAIN. So sick of this. Every time we take the field we are getting blown azz out. I saw nothing from today that gives me any optimism whatsoever. Alabama and Georgia are going to absolutely destroy us...and I am so sick and tired of that. I HOPE we get better...but i'm just being honest...I saw NOTHING to indicate we will get better. The only thing that would make me think we will...is just the blind hope that we get better with experience. NOTHING on the field indicated we necessarily will...Especially when we got worse as the game wore on. Fight? I didn't see it. I saw a team that folded as it went on. Very disappointed in Pruitt's debut cuz it looks obvious we will most likely not win an SEC game this year. I expected better. A LOT better. Pruitt does seem like a stand up guy. Nothing personal against him. But we are REALLY bad....and he isn't helping.

My biggest issues are the oline and lack of pressure on the QB. We have to get much better in these two areas

Ummm...I started 3 freshmen in the secondary....ummm that's what I promised them to sign up....ummmm..I dont give a flip about this year.. .ummmm... its not about winning games this year....ummmm... its about having a miserable year now playing freshmen then showing development (the trend)....ummm...so this year is a stepping stone... ummmm... ummmm.. ummmmm... thank you Fulmer for getting me a huge next contract cuz I'm dooley and bricks...ummm. Gosh almighty we are rock bottom! Sad!!
You sir are an idiot. (I don't call people out like this, but it had to be done in your case) Pruitt didn't make any excuses and took all the blame. The only thing that even sounded like an excuse (which he said was an explanation) was that our starting O-Line hasn't really practiced that much at their positions.

This team will get better. If he started 3 True Freshman then obviously they were the best option. A senior (Abernathy played like crap) yet who else should he put at safety since you are so smart? Warrior played bad as well. Yet a lot of times it wasn't just on the DBs a lot of it had to do with our D Line not getting any pressure on the QB. So anyways good day sir.

Well most of us didnt feel bad when he lost to Oregon his first year but didnt really turn out well. Not saying Pruitt is Butch but at this point in 2013 we were all pretty lenient on the big losses.

We should be lenient in his first year. Any new coach deserves a mulligan for year 1. Saban got it.

This was one of the games most realistic fans expected that we'd lose. This team wasnt expected to win any championships so nothing is lost. Win the ones we're supposed to and somehow get to 6 wins and nobody can complain.

I know there wasnt much to get fired up over but I saw some things I liked.

My blood still runs every bit as orange as it ever has and if yours doesnt after today then good riddance.

We dont want fans like you anyway.

On to the next one.

I don't see Buchanan starting next game. (He was worse than the true Freshman) he would just let WV receivers run right by him.

Did you guys pay close attention to what he said about the OL? That explains a TON as to why we struggled.

Yeh, you aren't going to win many games until your oline is all on the same page. This will get better as the year chugs along.

Pruitt exhibited good leadership qualities with his post game press conference, we all know it's the players fault and not Pruitt's, but he took responsibility.
How would he look blaming it on the players, he'd end up losing the team, but the players full well know who's responsibility for the 1st game debacle.

I drank the orange Kool aid, and like many, let my emotions run too high in hope of seeing something different from last year.

Being a old athlete, I know quite well that it's the players that win ball games, not the coaches.......... bottom line, the Vols need players that can compete in the SEC.....
