Jennings suspended for first half of bowl game (merged)

He ripped the guy's helmet off then immediately stepped on his head.

Damn lucky to only miss a half

Agree. I think the ripping of the helmet off and stepping on his head was the reason for the suspension...not to mention what was most likely said...

I don't mind this a bit. If it wasn't intentional, then did JJ make any effort at all to apologize to the player afterwards? Not to my knowledge. And then that freakout-show he put on right after the play on the sideline looked like pure Mr. Hyde coming out of Dr. Jekyll. As much as I love JJ as a player and respect his remarkable turnaround, it looks like he still can have some moments of terribly poor judgement. I hope he matures and grows out of it. His Haynesworth moment should not be how he should be remembered..but he is responsible for it, nobody else.
Thank goodness you don't mind it a bit but that's ******** and most people know it, apologize on a football field? Are you serious football is a mans sport not for a bunch of wusses. In the heat of the moment things happen and dude I promise you a helluva alot worse goes on on the field damn near every play especially at the bottom of the pile. He won't be remembered for that crap he's a damn football player that's what he'll be remembered by

I think they have enough to justify the suspension. Honestly, I think he kind of deserves it even though I don't believe the head step was intentional.

I don't think they could tell if it was intentional or not but him ripping off the helmet is the key issue. Especially after the Garrett-Rudolph fiasco recently. He's lucky it's only half a game which I think we all should be happy they only did that much.

WhereverYou fall in this debate.... That really is the dumb part of this.
ESPN reported the SEC determined he committed a flagrant personal foul. Penalty is same as targeting and throwing a punch, ejection from current half and next half. Had the officials at the game called it a penalty, he would have been ejected from the 2nd half of the Vandy game. Since they "missed" it, he only gets one half suspension.

It would've been smart on JJ's part. He should've stated after the game that he didn't intentionally step on the dude's head and apologize to player. It would've helped his case imo and it would've been a classy move.

You don't think he did it intentionally, but you think he deserves to be suspended.

And it doesn't matter the player on the ground was trying to rip JJ's helmet off, only that his own came off.

OK. Awesome.

To me that makes it even worse because by that logic they should also handout suspensions every week for all the missed targeting calls.

That's not how it works brother

Yeah.

He could've not continued to wrestle that guy to the ground and rip his helmet off. If JJ's helmet came off then I would say the other guy needs suspended too but it didn't.
I know for a damn fact that if JJ was a Vandy player, most of you all would call for a suspension. You guys are making it seem like JJ is an angel. I love his passion and fire but I'm not going to say that he doesn't make mistakes. He made a mistake and he's getting a LIGHT punishment regardless.

Okaaaay, great.

Right... worst thing to have ever happened in a rivalry game in the history of rivalry games ... especially in the age of "enlightenment" ... I think JJ should be punished most savagely !!!

Blah

So what about the Peabody prick that ripped Butler's helmet off on their first play from scrimmage? Where was his ejection? What about the dancing dufus on the Peabody sideline leading his team across the field to fight? I could deal with the penalty if there were any symblance of equity. Instead they got nothing for their actions because they were the ones whining.

Exactly.

There has to be a level of intent involved if your gonna do anything in a situation like this in regards to punishment.

They re basically saying, "We think you tried to hurt this guy after the play was over, but just a half's worth".

Reality is, a backbone is required to let him play or make a statement and suspended him for the entire game.

Obviously, that is missing.
