Jefferey Epstein found dead in jail cell

Banning marriage for everyone under 18 is unwise.

Nope. The government shouldn't even be in the business of "marriage".

Marriage is a religious institution, the only thing the state should be certifying is a civil union, which is a contract that requires both parties to be 18 to enter into.

If you want to have a religious marriage ceremony, have at it, but it should have no civil weight without a certificate of civil union.

The government? State or federal?

Why do we need a government to certify a civil union?

Both sides saw the dirt, and didn't like it. I have no doubts that the Biden admin wouldn't have released anything even without courts involved.
That scenario is possible. It really doesn't matter anymore unless the victims come forth and testify under oath in a formal hearing. If the Dems regain control of the House, that might come to fruition

Do away with it at all if you want, but if the government is going to bestow benefits on couples who choose to enter into a union, the it should be codified in a civil contract, not a religious institution.

And if there's a pregnancy and the 16 year old girl and the 18 year old boy want to marry? We don't need a nanny state to tell them it's forbidden.
The government's involved for record keeping purposes for lack of a better term.

When she turns 18, if she chooses to make that decision then she's free to do so.

You can't enter into a contract before the age of 18, so why in the hell should we be allowing kids to enter life-altering arraignments that have real legal and social consequences?

That's not even mentioning the crap like this that ends up occurring because of garbage parenting coupled with child marriage laws.

A 14 year old, or 16 or 18, in that position would likely feel that they had no choice. It's not like they were among boys of comparable age or wealth.
The age of consent should be the age of consent. 9 yo or 12 yo or 14 yo should not be having sex with any boy, or girl or man or woman.
There needs to be a level of consistency across our age related laws.why should a person be competent to choose to have sex but not competent to choose to smoke a cigarette or a joint?

I don't think that's practical since reproductive capability comes earlier than cognitive maturity. It would save a whole lot of grief if that was reversed but it isn't. We know that most 16 year olds can't handle drinking, contracts, and decisions about smoking and such, which is why we have the age of majority around 18. But 15 year olds, and many younger, are busy figuring out how to get in each others' pants. That's gone on forever and isn't going to stop.
At any rate, the minors manipulated by Epstein and the like aren't the ones at fault.

Story:

My long time ex's great grandmother was married at the age of 12 to a man in his 20's. This was probably 90 plus years ago. She had her first child at 14. I guess she was considered a "woman" then. No problem back in the day. They went on to have more children and stayed together until death.

Fast forward to today, and people marry and divorce all the time leaving lawyers to live happily ever after and families and possessions divided. The fast paced modern society with all the distractions that we live in is hell on marriages and relationships of all kinds. Porn and romantic movies are extremely damaging because they give people a false sense of reality.

So teens have the capability to obey a rule that they can’t smoke a cigarette, a joint or look at porn on the internet, but they can’t follow a rule/law to fornicate?
I bet you also can’t understand why young girls are pursued by perverts after their parents dress and paint them up.
Back in the 60s and 70s how many parents were bragging about how “mature” their teenage daughters were with 25 yo boyfriends?

"No problem back in the day" lol

Cool. Marry your daughter off at 12 to a 20 yo then

What's wrong with me? The Trump admin has been covering for pedos for 10 months and they are giving themselves another month and you're quibbling with me over "in" and "within."

Why isn't your question "WTF is wrong with the Trump admin?" They act like the guiltiest people ever, and you're losing it on me over a preposition.

Why can't they do it now? They've already spent 10 months curating the files. What are the odds they don't deliver in 30? What's going to compel them to actually make that deadline? If it's 21 days and not 30, does the point not stand? Why do they need 10 months and 21 days?

Start the clock.

@GordonC should we revisit this convo? Who could have seen this coming? A BS partial release exactly at the 30-day mark. Crazy, right?

Omg, huff was right when he said "in." You freaked out bc you thought I should have said "within" 😆 ...because prepositions are so important in the "Trump is protecting pedos" thread.

That's they way it was back then was what I was saying dude. I think he was 22 if IIRC. Back then no one had anything around here. If a older, more established man wanted to marry your daughter and take care of them then that was a load of the girls parents back and gave them peace of mind, I assume.

My family didn't have to do any of that back then. They had "shine" money. They had decent clothes, plenty of land, and there was always plenty to eat. They weren't poor dirt farmers, they had what they needed. Just like us today.....minus the "shine" money of course.

Dems been crying for the release of the files.......and it's a bunch of Slick Willy......what a bunch of cucks.
Democrats knew Clinton was implicated. That's not news. Everyone knows Trump would also be implicated. The only news is that the Trump won't release all the docs now that he has to, and everyon knows why (even though his name still pops up even with them trying to redact all mentions of him, so there must be A LOT in there). That's the lead here.

Both Clinton and Trump should burn.

None of that makes having one age of majority for everything make sense.
The legal ages to buy alcohol and tobacco and enter into contracts allow the state to prosecute those who slicker a kid with an unfair contract and those who sell smokes and alcohol to underage customers. The ages of consent allow prosecution of those who prey sexually on minors.
Why wouldn't I understand that? It's because all that paint makes them look older and / or because the pursuers are perverts.
I didn't count but in my community it wasn't a source of pride for most if their teenager daughter was dating a 25 year old. And if it happened, what would they say?
