I'm sorry, but what WAS the case then?
I was under the impression that Dooley's "invitations" to the mock game were being handed out as rewards - is that not the case?
And if it is the case, how is awarding selective members of the media any different than excluding selective members of the media?
I may be an outsider, but if my coach was pulling this nonsense I would be very displeased.
I understand the desire on the part of some coaches to lock practice down and make it distraction free - and that's certainly their right. But you can't be giving press access based on whether or not something that was published pissed you off - that's really ridiculous.
If you're worried about that stuff practice should be closed, period.
And any "journalist" who takes Dooley up on his offer knowing that others in the profession are being excluded based on *the program's* perception of their reporting has absolutely no spine.
He'll respond right back if you email him. I tried to be nice:
Thanks for the e-mail. We'll agree to disagreebut I appreciate you taking the time to express yourself.
Best of luck for a great season.

I respectfully remind you that the University of Tennessee hired Derek Dooley to coach a football team. Preferably, he'll oversee a return to the prominence we enjoyed in the 90's, while also undoing the assault on our traditions that mr. kiffin conducted during his coffee break in Knoxville last year. He was not hired by media outlets to jump through whatever hoops you think he should.
You are offended that you are unable to gain the information you feel you need to write a story of substance about the University of Tennessee's football program. I suppose I understand that. Soon enough, we'll all learn together what our Coach will and will not be able to do on the field. Personally, I have developed some confidence and look forward to some wins this year that many do not.
It is unclear exactly what you are looking for, but from all appearances I'm glad you haven't found it. As for me, I've had enough media whore coaches to last me for quite some time.
Dooley has limited access all year but earlier said that he would allow some more access. One of the regular reporters asked about it. He and the SI came up with a means of limiting that group to those who deserved more access.I'm sorry, but what WAS the case then?
Yes. On three critieria- faithfully showing up for briefings, effort, and respectfulness.I was under the impression that Dooley's "invitations" to the mock game were being handed out as rewards - is that not the case?
Some earned it. Some didn't. It isn't a categorical statement on the quality of those who didn't make it. It WAS a reward to those who did.And if it is the case, how is awarding selective members of the media any different than excluding selective members of the media?
Either you are ignorant of the situation or else... stating a "less than intelligent" pov.I may be an outsider, but if my coach was pulling this nonsense I would be very displeased.
And since that IS NOT what he did.... you should get your facts straight before drawing conclusions. But you can't be giving press access based on whether or not something that was published pissed you off - that's really ridiculous.
