Jeff Fisher comments on interest in the UT job

Pretty certain that Saban won 5 championships AFTER his NFL coaching. Check.

Holtz's college record was average before the NFL and won a national championship AFTER he returned to college. Check.

If you knew 1/10th of what you thought you knew about college football, you would be dangerous. DOUBLE CHECK.

You really aren’t making a lot of sense, Saban won a NC before he went to the Dolphins, Holts won the ACC and had a pretty good record at NC State before he went to the Jets. In reality Pete Carroll was the only NFL coach to transition to college ball and be highly successful, even then he had spent 10 years coaching at the college level. So, there is no precedent that a HC with no college experience would be successful stepping into a first time role as a HC in college. Even Bill Walsh, one of the top 5 NFL coaches of all time, went 17-17-1 when he stepped back to Stanford to coach.

Good grief you are as dense as a rock. Saban had already won a NC BEFORE going to the NFL.

Holtz? Before spending 1 year in the NFL he had 2 division titles with 2 different teams. He also had 2 bowl wins and a combined 25-9-2 conference record in 2 different conferences. So acting like he was terrible and the NFL somehow made him better is beyond dumb.

You like some other are just too dumb to see the point. Fisher sucked in the NFL. He is tied for the most losses in NFL history. And you think he would do decent here??? He would be an even bigger joke than Pruitt.

Again these are all just opinions
No one knows

I think it makes a lot of sense. Saban won a NC in 10 yrs before the NFL. He won 5 NCs in 11 years when he returned. Compare his winning pct after NFL, and before you say Alabama was a powerhouse, let us not forget UT was beating them almost every yr.

Speaking of dumb, anyone that would compare 1 NC to 5 NC should maybe not comment lol. TRIPLE CHECK.

What is your point?

Why would a bad NFL HC, who has been out of coaching for almost 5 years be able to attract top recruits?

He was not a bad NFL Coach. You aren't a HC in the NFL for 22 yrs and have a winning career record if you suck. His players loved him and there's zero doubt he would attract recruits. Hell look at Belichick. Without Tom Brady his career record is 43-55. He's considered one of the best Coach's in History but without the GOAT at QB He's 43-55 and had losing seasons in 5 of the 6 yrs he didn't have Brady, including this year. Point is you aren't a HC in the NFL for 22 yrs and have a career winning record if you suck. He would be a great hire here, but would need to hire experienced College Assistant's to help with the college learning curve.

Until Jeff Fisher self promoted his interest, he was on NO ONE'S LIST here or online elsewhere for the UT job.

No one here, while we tossed ridiculous ideas of Meyer, Saban, Kiffin, Sark, Jones, to Malzahn, Herman when they got fired, Cutcliffe, and on and on and on........ names were everywhere, but not Jeff Fisher.

He's a has been. No one remembered him. He wasn't just unthought of HERE, he's not on the Jets, Jags, or any other NFL teams list either. He was never mentioned for Auburn, Texas, Ole Miss, even Arkansas State......... GOOGLE his name from 6 months ago, he's NOWHERE on anyone's radar.

Are we so desperate that a guy, unemployed for 4 years....... getting ZERO interest from anywhere, can just drop his name and interest and suddenly "He's the one who can save us!!!!"

If he's THAT GOOD of a coach, he'd not be a forgotten coach that NO ONE has shown interest in for the past 4 years. Search. Look for interest, where his name comes up for ANY job. It doesn't. He's a has been.

You know for a fact no teams have shown interest? It's possible teams have reached out to him and he's not interested. Maybe the guy is feeling sorry for this **** show in Knoxville and understands any competent coach can field a competitive team.

Here you go, another self promotion. Basically, "Jeff Fisher wants to be relevant" in 2919.

Jeff Fisher is more than your 7–9 jokes

Doing some further searching, the XFL looked at him but didn't bite and Jerry Jones called him but never really considered him.

He's literally: NOBODY.

Here's another one from 2018. The AAF looked at him and didn't bite. He was thought DOA in 2018.

Will Jeff Fisher be coaching again soon? | Nashville Post

So is the football program in Knoxville these days.
I've no need to trash Jeff Fisher or UT but what happened with this thread was absurd.

A guy from the past comes out of nowhere, literally not on anyone's list here before his self promotion for the job, and suddenly "He's the Answer! He can lead us out of the abyss!"

There's an Old Testament story about Moses being gone to get the 10 Commandments and Aaron, his bro left in charge, is pressured into "giving the people some hope" so they melt down their gold and make a calf to worship.

It doesn't end well......

He definitely tailed off toward the end of his career, and in some ways his longevity hurt his reputation, but make no mistake, Fisher was a damn good coach with the Titans. He built that team up from basically nothing two separate times.

Everybody remembers the McNair/George years, but I’d argue his teams from ‘07-‘08 were more impressive from a coaching standpoint.

All that said, I have absolutely no idea how he would translate to the college game. I could see him being a steady, stabilizing force and I could see him being a total wash. Neither would surprise me, but I do think UT could do (and has done) a lot worse.

Sounds like Fisher sacked your girlfriend.

===WAS=== remains the operant word.

The tailing off is what naturally happens when the game passes you by. We saw it repeated at UT by a great coach, Phil Fulmer.

Jeff Fisher HAD his day. That day is not tomorrow.

Absolutely no way to know that. College and pro are two very, very different animals.
