Jeff Fisher comments on interest in the UT job

Lol. Again, please explain how Fisher is better than Miles in the collegiate level. Evidence based if you can.
I am not an expert on college football coaching there are people in that position that are paid and must stake their reputations on on the decisions they make. Since Miles got fired at LSU, Texas, Minnesota, USF, Cincinnati, Indiana, Oregon, Purdue, Baylor, Arizona, Oregon State, Florida, UCLA, Arkansas, Nebraska, Tx A&M, Miss St, and other schools have hired new football coaches and Miles hasn’t gotten a sniff. I have stated in other posts, I have no idea is Fisher can recruit or not, I do not know that his former Titan players that I have heard speak of him all day he was a great tactician, coach and always had them well prepared. That only takes scouting, film study and preparation and I am sure he can still do that. Fisher walked away with a bundle and until lately I have not read where he was even interested in coaching again.

Did better than Saban in the NFL. Maybe he could come and do better than Saban in college. You guys would be chest bumping for decades to come if that happened. Give him a statue beside Neyland. Won't know if he's not given the chance.
From a financial standpoint, it almost makes too much sense. That he's preemptively séeking the job is almost too good to be true. If Fulmer doesn't strongly recommend this to the ultimate decision makers, he should be escorted from the premises

I think he was asked the question by a report and said "if" the position was open he would definitely be interested. We can't look what he did in the NFL as in wins/loses, we have to see his potential for getting a staff that can actually develop players. Our players 3* have never performed at 5* levels. Development equals wins.

Ole Les is making almost 3 mill per year to lose games in Lawrence, Kansas.

Fisher forgot more about every aspect of being a head coach than Pruitt will ever know about it. Only an idiot would argue anything to the contrary

I don't "know" it. It's a prediction based on an informed perspective of his time with the Titans, KNOWING how he structured and organized his players and staff. And knowing it would be on a much higher level than what we're getting from Pruitt in those 2 important elements for building and sustaining a power 5, traditionally tiered program
I’m not arguing that he wouldn’t be an improvement over Pruitt, he would and that is in stone. My point was that I don’t want a defensive minded coach on his first college gig. If that is where we want to go, the Marrone would be a better choice, and I really don’t want him either.

Not sure you do, yes the GM hires the players, typically they have a cap expert for the salary and contract nuances. Does the coach have input, yes, but, ultimately it is the GM who buys the groceries.
Who gives him the shopping list?

Yeah, like the SEC is more competitive than the NFL. Again, you are delusional.
You really don’t understand that those 2 leagues are different. You want to bring in a guy that has NEVER, coached in any capacity at the college level. What you guys need to understand is that when you are in the NFL, you have a GM who builds your team, and you coach them. In CFB, there is no GM, the HC is the guy that finds, recruits, and develops the players. (With the assistants before someone chimes in). He has never had that responsibility, and I would think that everyone would be tired of hiring someone to learn on the job again.

Exactly, the coach says ”I need a QB and here is who I like” but, the GM evaluates and selects them. In CFB, there is no one to evaluate the talent for you.

What ???? What do you think all the grad asst. that are assigned to the recruiting coordinators do. Do you honestly think a college coach looks at every tape sent to him by every coach and player that is trying to get a scholarship ????

Are you that simple? I’ll dumb it down for you, in CFB, the HC is ULTIMATELY responsible for the roster. In the NFL, the GM is ultimately responsible for the roster. Take a look at post 463, good Lord...

The fact he took a team to the Super Bowl in the NFL is enough. Structure and stability translates easily from the NFL to college.

"Prove it"? Immature and silly

Ah yes. Immature and silly to ask for evidence when a statement is made. Thanks for playing. So any HC is enough to get a college job regardless if they have experience or not?

Beyond stupid. Fisher would be a terrible hire and you have zero evidence to prove he would be a great hire.

I never said he was. I said I didn't know how he would do here. But it's incredibly stupid to say he sucks and that there's a half dozen better football coaches in the SEC.

Out of all the coaches that he's worse than, one of them has beaten Nick Saban on the field and it's Fisher.

Fisher beat Saban in the NFL. Not college.

I disagree about Marrone. Can't imagine why you said that since Marrone doesn't have the record or pedigree of Fisher

The staff evaluates in college. They also have position coaches. That's their job; to find talent. Also, there are those who work in the Recruiting Department. Setting up visits scheduling recruiting trips etc. The AD has the set up for any coach to succeed. Regardless if he has college experience or not.

Read all my posts then crawl out of Fulmer's butt, Mr. "Dobbs might still become a starter in the NFL. Brady wasn't a starter right away and he was drafted in the 6th round". That statement you made earlier in the season gives you zero credibility concerning any discussion of football. Silly boy

I got your simple AH, but if you are so sure about a NFL coach not being able to run a college team you are wrong. Yes there are differences but if you have coached in the pros for anytime at all you are farther ahead of the game than most and on top of that baby sat a bunch of high priced prima donna's which Saban said he couldn't do then I feel sure you could adjust. Remember all of these coaches clinics the pro's put on every summer are attended by high school and college coaches as well and yes those in the SEC do attend and the pros are doing the teaching and not being taught.

Who is ultimately responsible for the roster?
