If you can’t get a home run hire then this makes sense. He’s close to retirement age and would make a transition in the future much easier/cheaper. What we really can’t do is just take a chance on an up and comer like the last three hires. I’m for it if it means no more Pruitt.

And you'd have to think he would be able to put together a staff with lots of NFL experience. Big time recruits would like that. Plus that possibly translates into guys knowing assignments and (gasp) being fundamentally sound. If Captain Cornbread, Life Champion, and Rommel can recruit top 15 to 20 classes here, I feel about any decent coach could.

I think this dog could hunt. The more I think about it the more I like it.

Les Miles would be a much better option

So what’s the big difference between Doofus, Botch, Pruitt and Fisher?

This one is interesting to me. If he could do for UT what O’Brien did for Penn State then we would be set in 3-4 years with talent to hire a big name coach. He should be able to put a superb coaching staff to develop players. Name recognition should help in recruiting.

Older defensive minded coach. Check.

Barely above .500 in the NFL. Check.

Never coached a down in college football as a HC. Check.

Terrible post season record as a HC. Check.

Never recruited. Check.

Sounds like the absolute perfect fit for good ol Phil.
Jimmy Johnson has a .55 record in the NFL

Couldn't possibly be worse than Pruitt.

Depends on how much work he wants to put into recruiting and what he would try to do on offense.
