Jarrett Guarantano by the numbers through 10 games

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed our receivers led the SEC in dropped passes, and by a wide margin! Wonder how much higher his completion percentage would be - and how many more TDs he would have - if our receivers were within the top third best in drops? (Guess we could calculate the potential comp %)

Go Vols!!!

So, if our drop percentage was comparable to Florida's or Georgia's, at third or fourth best in the SEC instead of worst in the SEC, JG's completion percentage would be about 68.8%.

So imagine how much better Guarantano could be in a season or two with a good offensive line, with fewer drops by receivers, and with his continued improvement. It's entirely possible he could end up as one of the all-time top QBs at UT.

So, they show him with 2 picks this year. But didn't he just set a Tennessee record last week with the most pass attempts without a pick?

I believe 1 against UF. Maybe 2 I’ve tried to forget that abysmal effort of a game.

Solid C. One of the articles that was being thrown around timed him at 2.5 seconds snap to either release or getting creamed. You are now basically asking for 4.5 seconds? Pretty sure not even pro teams give the QB that long on average to throw.
A C grade is to low. I'd have to give him a B. We get some OL in here on NSD and I think the kid will light it up next year.

Don't forget this is year one in a new system for everyone. I think that's why we see the improvement we have in the last few games. It's starting to click for the whole team.

What is negative about JG's completion %, lack of INT's, and average TD's per game?
I understand the numbers and it all has to average together but like my previous post before reading this the first 5 to 6 games is the team getting use to their new system. You have to expect low numbers year one. If there isn't huge improvement game 1 next year is when my red flag will go up with yours.

This isn't directed at you but I stayed out of the JG vs KC debate last spring and all season untill last week. I always thought they brought KC in just in case JG got hurt. IMO they were never going to start him with only a year to play and JG having 3 left. Building for the future.

The only issue that I have with JG is his late delivery on deep passes, rather than throwing to lead the receiver. Too many times this year, a receiver has gotten behind the defense, and the ball is thrown to where the receiver has to slow down and allows the DBs to catch up. The end result is all three get there at the same time ending up as a 50/50 ball, when it coulda/shoulda been 6 untouched. It happens at least once a game it seems.

Other than that, he is doing great. I'm more comfortable with him throwing on third down than I am with whatever were doing the first two downs.

Go Vols.

I'm not advocating for KC to play. People seem to assume if you point out JG not being good that you must somehow be a KC homer. JG has gotten better but him and the oline need a lot of work to really turn the corner next year.

This is the most reasonable statement you've made regarding JG, and I think it's one most would agree with.

It's also comparing a senior to a sophmore. It feels like this is Drew Locks 7 season. Lol
I think that is the biggest thing that is overlooked when it comes to Guarantano. I don't think people remember that he is not a seasoned veteran that has shown no improvement. He has been the starting QB for the Vols for just over a year. His first partial season was behind arguably the worst OL in UT history. Couple that with a play caller that called plays in such a disjointed way that it appeared he was drawing the plays out of a hat, I feel he deserves a lot more props than he gets. When he gets time to look the field, he seems to pick the right guy to throw to, and gets the ball there is a hurry.

Great post. He will absolutely light it up next year.

Great post.

Just have to add he’s also taken a ton of hits. Probably about as many as Peyton had his whole time here. JG’s toughness cannot be questioned.
