Janzen Jackson was our best player

florida kicked their best player off the team for the same reason (Janoris Jenkins, cover corner). The players will adjust.

Dooley did say he was our best player, but meh. We had a pretty good recruiting class at DB, so time for them to step up.

He may have had elite skill potential but he was anything but a sure fire 1st round pick.

NFL is tired of dealing with character issues also.
Look at Ryan Mallet. First round potential with character issues and he didn't even take leaves of absence from the team, get in fights or participate in a stick-up.

I think that is exactly what I said, but ok

JJ was NOT the best player on the team. He was the player with the most potential.

Hit the nail on the head. And also even if he wasnt the best, he was in the conversation

Yes the NFL is tired of dealing with character issues - I totaly agree - but what if there was a recent example of a DB with failed drug tests and problems in college drafted in the 1st round - I wonder how far back we'd have to go.........I wonder who was drafted 27th overall last year?

JJ was and still is a 1st round b/c they draft off of potential and he still has unbelievable potential to be a CB or FS

the comment was not meant to convey that jackson was not a good player.

nor was it meant to convey that jackson would not have been able to help the team.

i don't think tennessee's win-loss record for the 2011 season changed because he is not on the team.

maybe i am wrong. maybe the secondary will be lost without him and now the defense will be a whole new level of terrible.

but, IMO, i don't think jackson not being on the field will change the outcome of games.

JMO

I for one hope your right but I'm one game less confident about how we'll finish up, if for no other reason than he just takes away flexibility in the backfield which was to be our strength.

Ive posted this on multiple threads today. JJ was not our best player. Malik was and is without doubt. He is ranked 4th in the country at his position. JJ was talented and a big hitter. Not our best player

Malik was/is our most important player b/c it is a more important position on the field and we are so thin at it - you can have the best safety on earth but if you can't get pressure on the QB it won't matter b/c in time WR's will get open

that being said Malik was not a better player - JJ was the best player on the team - Malik is and undersized player overachieving - JJ has the talent to be as good a cover safety or corner as you want at college or the NFL - no comparison

Definitely one of the best players on the team.

He was fortunate he wasn't dismissed as a freshmen.
That should have been a wake up call.

It's sad to miss your senior season like this, I hate it for him, but he had his chances and blew it.

Make up your mind. You defined potential. Not current greatness.

He was easily the most talented player on the roster. It's a damn shame he couldn't get it together.

We'll see but I'd bet against it.

I dont hate JJ at all. I do think it's a shame that he would always end up being in the wrong place at the wrong time type deal. The kid could really play some ball and loved UT/Dooley. He will be missed.

I dont care how many people hate on him he was the best player on the team and was a great DB. I do agree we should have kicked him off today ( which we did) but we need to support this kid because im in highschool and you wont believe how many people do drugs its a terrible habit and it is something JJ has a problem with...... with that being said watch out for him in the NFL he will come back just like JOSH HAMILTON did
with the Rangers... So stop hating or saying negative things about this KID when you dont even know him...GBO!!

I agree with a previous poster that malik is our best player. Look I loved jj as a player but he was given more chances than someone with lesser talent would have been given. It's hard not to hate for two reasons IMO, we all know or have personally witnessed someone with God given ability, that has the chance to go as far as we could only dream of waste it because they are two things, selfish and lazy. My other reason that it it is hard not to hate is that jj did not care about anyone but himself. I'm just a fan but he was so selfish to have left his football family out to dry. I hope he turns his life around but am I wishing he goes on to a multi million dollar NFL career after he screwed over the vols? Sorry but no. I'll root for the guys who work hard and care about their team, jj doesn't deseve to ware the orange.

How did he love Dooley or UT? Time and time again he showed the only person he cared about was hisself. He left our entire team out to dry so he could do drugs. He was great, i loved watching him play, but one word describes jj and that's selfish.

No one has mentioned this, but we'll miss him most on special teams. Last year, everyone bragged about how our punt and kick coverage had improved under Dooley. But in reality JJ made most of those tackles.

I would have to agree with this.. JJ, no doubt was the most physically gifted/talented... However, being the most physically gifted/talented does not guarantee you will be the BEST player at your position or on the team. It doesn't even guarantee you will be a good player for that matter...

Crompton, I think we can agree was physically gifted.. Reveiz was probably not the most physically gifted... See where I'm going with this?

JJ at this point lacks the mental tools to be that 'best' player.. I really hope he puts it together because when/if he does he will be fun to watch..

Wow. That was certainly persuasive.

Dooley did the right thing. The team will be better for it in the long run.

This move could help keep 3 to 30 guys from going down this same road at UT.

The players will respect the coach even more and everybody will step up their game.

DD is building a solid foundation. If it takes a bunch of 3 stars with the right stuff, that need a redshirt, but become 5th year seniors with a year or two starting under their belt, chances are they will play together as a team and kick the **** out of a team with 5 star sophomores with bad attitudes just looking to jump pro asap.

UT will get it's share of 4&5 stars, it will be the senior leadership down the road that lays the foundation for the 5 stars to shine.

Malik is a good player and I am certainly glad to have him, but he was a backup at USC for a reason - he came over and looked good against the weak portion of our schedule once he was switched to DT and was so important b/c we were so bad at that position

JJ was the best safety in the SEC and as a good a cover safety as you can find at the college level

He obviously was not a boy scout so he certainly earned his dismissal, but he was a heck of a football player

He was a good player but he was also our biggest liability. I had Janzen on my facebook page and from looking at his pictures he don't hang with a very good crowd. I saw him throwing gang signs in the pictures. And yes I know what I am talking about because I am in law enforcement and I see that kind of stuff daily!

Jackson was NOT our "best" player ! FYI , Im 30 and I know a lot of people who do drugs . What's the point ? Kiffin didn't have the balls to send him packing when they robbed Bo and Luke Duke with a red ryder shortly after packing a cherry blunt full of jamaican red hair. Let's play Tennessee Football
