James Franklin

Come on.... Our fan base loved Lane Kiffin before he left us holding the bag. They ate the guy up. The fact is the guy is a home run hire who would be a perfect fit here. Plus you get to piss Vandy people off. Either you want to win or not....

Kiffin didn't have the baggage of the rape deal with him. and with BD as our chancellor, with the title IX suit we just got out of a couple years ago ourselves......

just don't see it happening. on football alone, yeah, i get it.

but that baggage is there, and i find it hard to believe that our new administration would hire that guy given the situation at Vandy, and at UT that led to the ouster, on some level anyway, of some of the administrators they just replaced.

Agree.

He's only an azzhole, until he's our azzhole.

He'd have me fired up.

i totally agree.

it's just that it's not that he's just an a hole. the baggage from Vandy, and what happened at UTK, are still fresh enough to make the administration and a good portion of the fans say 'no thank you'.

Your selling this rape baggage as something connected to him. NOTHING connected him to knowing anything about that. Nothing was proven. He was hired at Penn St and has been there for 3 years with no problems on that front.

Quit coming up with excuses why we can't get a big time guy when this job is easily a top 10 job. Our fanbase has been sold a bill of goods by the people in charge down there that just plainly isn't true. We deserve better and the very best guy in my opinion at least is James Franklin for this job. Make an effort to hire him!!! if he turns it down fine. But make an effort.

What that bunch in charge down there has gotten from all the resources available is unacceptable.

Noone talks a lot about Butch and him having baggage of rape from AJ + Michael Williams AND Riyahd Jones. people keep asking for Bob Stoops, but what about Joe Mixon and how that played out?

you're misunderstanding me...i know you don't think that way, i don't think that way...but if you don't think there are going to be people out there that do.........i got bad news for you. in stuff like this, you think people are going to let facts get in the way of perceptions???

i'd be absolutely shocked if we hired James Franklin. i'd be happy for our football future. but i'd be wholeheartedly surprised if we could get that done.

I'd hire him without blinking. We'd be really good. If football coaching is the job he's a top shelf candidate. If we're looking for a new HR rep with no former player problems to hold a clipboard and manage the decline of Tennessee football in a classy way, then I suppose it does eliminate him. But I will completely lose my stuff if we ask Petrino and don't at least try Franklin as well.

agreed.

Franklin is from Pennsylvania
He went to college in Pennsylvania
Penn State was his dream job

Why anyone would think Franklin would even want to leave Penn State to come to Tennessee (and back to the SEC) is an absolute mystery.

He is from Pennsylvania. So what? You don't know he would not come. You assume he wouldn't.....

If you don't think the SEC east is easier than the division he is in you just don't know football. He is in the same division as Harbaugh, Dantonio, and Meyer. If he runs the table there is no chance. If he drops one or two he may listen. He was in Nashville. He knows this place. How do you know if he would be interested or not? You don't!! He seen how much this state loves UT and all the resources available at UT. It is a lot easier to recruit at UT. If winning National Championships is the goal it is easier in Knoxville.

Franklin won at Vandy... no one wins at Vandy.

Franklin has made PSU a competitor in short order... and they've been to lower regions of Hades recently than UT has.

He can coach. He can select and manage a staff. Players play hard for him. Players trust him.

If you don't want him because you don't like him... get over it. The only people who like Saban, Meyer, Kelly, Petrino, et al... are those who have enjoyed the wins they produce. All of those guys have an edge... an unlikeable public persona.

You want to win. Franklin is a guy who should be in your top 5.... and definitely above someone like Kelly.

Penn St is halfway through the season, and the closest they've come to a ranked team is Iowa which they beat 21-19. That's got them well up in the rankings, but now they play three competitive teams - OH St, MI, MI St. Then they go back to teams all ranked lower than any SEC team not named MO or Vandy, and Neb and Rutgers especially barely nudge out Vandy. By this time next week we will have played two teams ranked higher than Penn St's highest ranked opponent.

Who said it was his dream job? Not a smart aleck question, a serious one.

:rock:Franklin has a "mouth" problem. Although successful at Vanderbilt, even they are glad he is gone.

When somebody can win in football at Vanderbilt, the question should be "what's wrong" rather than accepting greatness.

...no more than you assume he WOULD be interested.

good coach? absolutely.

and so long as it's ok with you for me to have an opinion, my opinion is that he would rather stay at Penn State than come to tennessee, a program he badmouthed during his entire vandy tenure.

If you don't think the SEC east is easier than the division he is in....

full stop. the only reason I said I thought he would rather stay at PSU is because he said it was his dream job. I never brought up anything about which conferences were tougher.... because i think that aspect of things is irrelevant. try not to make strawman arguments.

...you just don't know football. He is in the same division as Harbaugh, Dantonio, and Meyer. If he runs the table there is no chance. If he drops one or two he may listen. He was in Nashville. He knows this place.

and wtf does that have to do with anything? right. it has NOTHING to do with a guy who wants to stay at Penn State for the sole purpose that that's his "dream job". everything else is irrelevant.

How do you know if he would be interested or not? You don't!!

and you don't know either. have you been on the list of people who refuse to believe gruden is a possibility? if so, why do think gruden would not come but Franklin would? why do you think gruden won't consider it, but Franklin would?

thanks for sharing why you think he should consider it. I agree those are good reasons.

I happen to think it's not enough to make him leave his "dream job".
