Because the relationship was strained at best. A reporter in Manhattan even reported that Currie allegedly told Snyder to "sit his A** down " in a meeting one time.

If that's true he lost me. You don't tell CBS to sit his @$$ down.

Because he had a $4M contract, Vandy was giving him everything he wanted, and he had figured out how to recruit good players to Nashville which should be a gold mine for any good coach, and because he had won 9 games twice, beaten Georgia and Florida and and Ole Miss and Auburn and the Vols and could have been elected mayor or Governor for crying out loud. Why am I still having to explain this?

Because Vandy is a stink hole and always will be. Perhaps Franklin doesn't want to accept mediocrity and wants to win championships. He'd never be able to accomplish that at Vandy.

He was born in Pennsylvania and played college football in PA. Penn state is paying him twice($8.9 MM) what Vandy was and it is much easier to recruit to PSU. Why wouldn't he leave? When's the last time Vandy was ranked in the top 5?

Why would a coach leave Penn St for Tennessee? Its a lateral move at best and a step down at worst. He is already at a top level school and doing well.

You guys need to lay off the drugs.

lol, because you're wrong. Who cares about and supports their football team more...Vandy or Penn State? Which team has more history and prestige? What city appreciates their football team more...Nashville or Happy Valley? Why are you still trying to explain this?

Well someone important thinks he could leave or Penn State wouldn't be offering him more money in an effort to stave off A&M who are in hot pursuit. Franklin would be wise to stay, but who knows. Sometimes money talks.

Yeah.
Urban Meyer coached Aaron Hernandez and Chris Rainey.

One killed and the other threatened to kill.

Urban Meyer likes muderers??

No he doesn't. He's just a coach.

Just like Franklin.

It was pretty well known that Franklin played a role in covering it up. Thats the problem.

Oh yes he would. He admitted to being interested in Texas A & M job just last week. So I think he wants to be back in SEC. Plus we could keep Shoop who seems to do well under Franklin.

Ugh.... he is trying to get a raise while he has the #2 team in the country. Yea I'm sure he actually wants to leave to go to A&M

He has the #2 team in the country right now he ain't going anywhere. Penn State knows what they have and will up his salary to keep him around.

Bottom line is UT will never spend big money to get a 5-7 mill a year guy who wins year in and year out. The last several hires have proven that. They go the cheap route and hope the guy works out because he has done good at big 10 schools.

Franklin would need to lose two games for us to have a shot. He would be a home run. The guy would recruit at a level not seen here since mid 90's Fulmer. Plus he is a jerk and a redneck which our fanbase would love. I know I would.

He isn't a Penn St guy. He didn't go to Penn St. He is from south Philly near New Jersey. He wasn't connected to any of the rape stuff. Never testified or anything. That argument is just stupid.

UT's selling points would be getting out of a division with Dantonio, Harbaugh, and Meyer. That selling point would be strengthened if he dropped games to Ohio St and Michigan. It is also easier to recruit players to compete with Bama at UT than at Penn St. So if National Championships are his goal our selling point is that is more easily accomplished at UT. Also have you been to State College? Middle of nowhere in the middle of nowhere... Knoxville is much better place to live. He knows the state and what UT football means to people in this state.

It would take a ton of money and UT would have to decide that it is tired of the up and comer route. The same way Alabama and Michigan have. Who knows if that ever happens. But this is possible guy if we committed to go after him.

except neither was in the Big 10. they were both from g5 conferences. getting a coach from another power 5 school, in and of itself, would be an upgrade.

Well that's reassuring. He's from Thugville not State College. No thanks.

I am sick of the mediocrity. If we are going to compete for championships, it is going to cost money. Franklin is the surest option in my opinion. What he did at Vandy and is doing at Penn State is remarkable. He was outrecruiting Tennessee when he was at Vandy for crying out loud. He would lock down Tennessee and raid North Carolina, northern Georgia, and Kentucky. If we piddle around, Georgia will be teh beast of the East for years to come.

there's a portion of our fan base that would agree with you, and i'm in that camp.

but the vast majority of UT fans/alum/donors really do not like James Franklin, and i doubt the base as a whole could be sold on him as the next HC.

I disagree. The moment he got up at the mic and said we are locking down this state and the east our fans would fall in love with him. He is a fighter and our fan base relates to that.

There really is only one donor that matters and till Haslam gets out of the way and lets people who know what they are doing make these decisions it doesn't matter.... We are going to get more of the same.

Agree.

He's only an azzhole, until he's our azzhole.

He'd have me fired up.

not with the rape issues he left at Vandy and his generally smarmy disposition. i think you underestimate the blue hair factor in regards to Franklin. there's no way hiring him would appease the majority of the fan base. you can see it smattered about in this thread.

they came up on Johnny Majors and Phil Fulmer. polar opposite of Franklin, on all levels. and they do not relate to him or guys of his ilk.

keep in mind, i'd hire him tomorrow. it just ain't happening.

Come on.... Our fan base loved Lane Kiffin before he left us holding the bag. They ate the guy up. The fact is the guy is a home run hire who would be a perfect fit here. Plus you get to piss Vandy people off. Either you want to win or not....
