Jalen Hurd cited for underage drinking (will play in bowl)

I'm disappointed that so many of you encourage underage drinking at an instution thats goal is to create good Christian young men. General Neyland or Pat Summitt wouldn't stand for this laissez faire acceptance of sin.

Watch out pointing that finger...you have 3 of your own pointed back at you! Sweep around your own porch!

But cbj has total control of the team. He gets it n is way better than dools n kiff n cbj players never get into trouble..

Lately its starting to sound like the tn of old... Thugs running wild...which usually equates into wins...its about time!!!!

If underage drinking makes you a "thug" then about 90% of UT students are "thugs".

Sarcasm or serious? If serious, then you need to be very careful when dismounting from your moral high horse.

A criminal act is a criminal act, he doesn't deserve to wear Orange until he's on a sober path. We can't risk another Leonard Little or Nukeese Richardson.

"A sober path"? Underage drinking is a citation (like a parking ticket) and if you are suggesting that this makes someone an alcoholic, then most people on here are probably alcoholics. Entirely different from Little or Richardson and putting an underage drinking CITATION in the same category is not accurate and is merely hyperbole.

If he plays in the bowl game I'm done. This preferred treatment of stars is a stain on the university. If Coach Jones doesn't do the honorable thing and suspend Hurd we have failed as a program.
Yes let's suspend the deviant for doing something 99.99% of college freshmen do frequently while in college.

I would suggest a suspension of a single play during the bowl game to make sure Hurd learns his lesson.

Read the damn article.

A source close to the situation told RockyTopInsider.com that Hurd was not the unconscious individual, and in fact, Hurd initially was not even on the scene, but was contacted during an investigation involving his vehicle.

When Hurd arrived, the officer asked him if he had been drinking and Hurd voluntarily responded that he had. At that point Hurd, who is 18, was issued a misdemeanor citation for underage drinking, but was not handcuffed or taken into custody.

Lol, I think board rules make someone refrain making fun of a poster. I also feel there is probably no need for anyone to add anything additional after this gem of a post.:eek:lol:

Spoken like someone who's got trouble accepting their drinking problem. When you're ready to join us righteous ones, we will save you from your hell of drunkenness.

No need to read that article since I read the info in this thread before the article was ever written

"The source called it a “non-issue” for Hurd that has already been addressed with internal discipline by the coaching staff. Hurd, who led Tennessee with 777 yards rushing as a true freshman, is not in any danger of missing any of the Jan. 2 TaxSlayer Bowl matchup against Iowa in Jacksonville."

He showed up on the scene after cops were already there. They asked him if he had a drink and he told the truth and said yes. That was the end of it. Man people act like he was plastered and acting like an idiot while he was drunk.

That exactly why I haven't joined the "righteous" ones. They sit there in their little congregations and talk about not judging people every week. Then the second they leave and go back out in the world every person they see is bashed for not being one of them.

I made a decision a long time ago not to be a hypocrite.

Kick him off the team and teach a lesson to the others!...............NOT, not too many 18 year olds that have not broken this law. Jones will have him run the stadium, puke a few times, give him a hug and tell him to stay away from those parties ;)

Go Vols!

Not encouraging it, just putting it in its proper context. Like it or not, and I dont, underage drinking on a college campus is widespread and inevitable. Hurd wasn't drinking and driving, wasn't publicly intoxicated, no one was hurt, injured or assaulted. If any of those circumstances had occurred, I suspect the tone and tenor of the posts in here would be 180 degrees different.... I know mine would be. Bottom line, I just found it difficult to believe you would really no longer be a fan of the program based on this relatively minor incident with Hurd in light of how Jones has correctly and swiftly handled much more serious situations with Paulk and AJ/Williams to date. It's certainly your perogative and on one level I respect your stance. Just think that given what we know at this point, turning in your fan card was an over the top reaction. Jmo.

And yet here you are, with a ridiculously judgmental, hypocritical post.

Christian! I think we have plenty of engineering students that arent christian and are pretty good young adults. Nothing wrong with drinking nothing anti christian about drinking. There is something wrong with abusing alcohol on a habitual basis. There is also something wrong with you assuming and passing judgement on so many of us.
Hope your posts are a attempt to be funny

Really? What was hypocritical. I stated the truth. I tried going to church a few times. Overhearing conversations from people in there talking about things I know for a fact they do every day of their lives. The sad thing is, it's a small town and they know everyone knows. They just don't care, because apparently as long as they go into the church on Sunday and say they're sorry it doesn't matter. Seen it. That makes it fact.

A hypocrite preaches one thing and does the other. What have I said that I immediately contradicted?

Being critical and standing in judgment of people who you said are critical of and stand in judgment of other people maybe?
