J Jennings Dismissed from UT

I do not like this decision. Jennings should have shut his mouth and needs discipline. But not a team dismissal and definitely not from a coach that knows he won’t be around more than a couple more weeks. Currie needs to take a quick break from the Bahamas to handle this.
Sorry, but none of us know enough about his dismissal to say it was a bad decision.

Been in the military 22 years, attained the highest enlisted rank in less than 20 years and was an infantryman, not some fast promoting technical mos. Show me a leader that physically and mentality abuses their troops and ill show you a piss poor leader. Boot camp can be a bit of a game but physical abuse should never be tolerated.

No physical abuse was mentioned just talking about the verbage and the mental pressure put on in camp. You are a lot younger than me evidently but please don't tell me basic has changed that much.

Wes Rucker indicated in his tweets that JJ shouldn’t have been dismissed and that his teammates love him. He also said UT has restricted access to JJ this season for reporters. Not groundbreaking, but definitely interesting, especially in contrast to what the guy claiming to be a WR’s Uncle has claimed.

If JJ calms down and waits the next staff will welcome him back. IF he stays calm. But honestly what could the coaches/AD do? He kinda left them no choice. A player can't come out and say things like that and nothing happen. The fact he hasn't been around/visible since his injury only makes it look worse.

If you watch the video, how can JJ not get dismissed? He didn’t just post a cryptic tweet, he berated the staff with A looooooot of bleeps, multiple N words word dropped. Just overall not a good look. Now, as a fan I can understand his frustration and I totally get it. F*** this coaching stuff and F*** Currie if he hires another loser ass Google coach, but from an AD’s perspective that type of behavior can’t be allowed.

My biggest objection is assuming you dismiss him, an employee that has a longer term future than a few weeks handles it face to face. Currie screwed up by not having Hoke do an indefinite suspension until Currie got back to handle it face to face. Whatever that decision was.

Its unprofessional for the only University personnel involved that will be employed past December 20 literally dial in this decision from a Caribbean resort. Want him kicked off the team Currie? Fine. Come home from your University sponsored vacation and handle your business John.

Wanted him kicked off and it happened. And he got a tan to boot. Who dresses up for these things? Did Johnny Majors wear a tuxedo at the banquet where they announced Reggie Cobb was getting the boot? Currie was watching a group of young men represent our Vols the RIGHT WAY.

Regardless how true they are. LOL Just some butthurt coaches that don't like the truth about them coming out.
Has nothing to do with truth coming out or whatever. You don't post that kinda stuff on twitter. Not in that format. Had he came out in an interview or something and just said look i'm not happy this is why maybe it gets addressed. Or hit channels behind the scenes. You don't air that in public period.

Truth or not there will be a new staff in the next week or 2 so there was no point in his rant. He shoulda just shut up and waited.

Johnny was an employee with a long term future did it face to face. That's the point. Your statement about a tuxedo is irrelevant. No problem with Currie going, its leaving the dirty work to an interim that's problem. Suspend until return. Its not hard.

The Fulmer Cup is named after our football program's criminal achievement. Butch Jones said Drae Bowles "betrayed the team" by helping a rape victim. But we're kicking Jennings off the team for an Instagram rant?

Our coaches are :lame:

It wasn’t “leaving dirty work to an interim”. It’s about players thinking they can trash their CURRENT COACH because they know he won’t be there next season. AD allows that climate and the next guy shouldn’t have confidence that it’ll automatically get better. As is, JJ does it right and he’ll get a chance to change his situation. But the new coach isn’t bound to it. It will be HIS decision.

You can't say Currie screwed up without knowing what all might have transpired behind the scenes leading up to JJ's dismissal. And the only people who know are JJ, the staff, and Currie. And I doubt seriously Hoke would want to dismiss JJ, nor do I believe Currie would approve it, unless something serious, or a series of events ocurred, that lead up to the dismissal. It is unfortunate, but JJ only has himself to blame, IMO.

There's actually a chance that academics drove all this.

If JJ truly skipped an entire semester of classes, he may have been ruled academically ineligible for sports. He may have been put on academic probation.

Sure, it was the interim head coach, in consultation with the athletic director, who informed JJ that he's no longer on the team, but that doesn't mean they had a choice in the matter.

We won't know the facts until/unless they come out from someone inside the circle.

As long as we don't know, makes no sense to throw stones about.

The semester isn't up until Dec 10th. He can't be placed on academic probation for grades that he hasn't even received yet. And where have you seen that he is in academic jeopardy or hasn't been attending classes, anyway?

I have no idea what the real reason is, but im pretty sure it is more than the video.

Yep. Video was the final straw. Fans need to realize that sometimes a player reaches a point that despite his talent, he's just not worth it anymore. The old saying about a bad apple spoiling the barrel is true in a locker room. Guys like JJ who are looked to for leadership are seen by younger players and he does have influence. It's as if a few players infect others on the team who then infect others after them. It's hard to change that culture once it starts. It's what killed Fulmer IMO and it's why Bama is so damned consistent and successful. They've created the reverse in their culture. They have strength at the top and those demands and expectations filter down through the incoming classes. It's a self perpetuating system of excellence. The coaches and upperclassmen set a tone and demand that from everyone else. You get a bad character and he's seen as getting special treatment or making his own rules or being disrespectful to his coaches or teammates and it can ruin a locker room.

No, I don't think this staff is trying to harm the program. Let's be real...this staff knows they're probably all gone after this weekend so they could just go through the motions and collect a check....not giving a damn. Hoke sure wouldn't bring heat like this with what....2 or 3 days left in his time at UT unless there was a very good reason to do so. Sorry but JJ brought this upon himself. I see no reason to pile on the staff for making what surely would not be a popular decision. Same for Currie. He had all the information on the subject and gave the green light to dismiss JJ. Tells me that you're correct.....there's more to this than just a video.
