J Jennings Dismissed from UT

I wonder what a lot of you would say if this had been Bo Scarbrough at Bama, Jalen Tabor at Florida, or Tyrann Mathieu at LSU?

You know exactly what they would be saying and you’re right. It really does look like he deserved dismissal from what is available in the public domain right now.

Mathieu is an interesting one to include. He was an idiot but he got squared away and is killin’ it in the league now. Good for him.

If you’re a coach considering the UT job, would you want players blasting crap like that on instagram to be tolerated? Currie did what he had to do, I support it.

Perhaps Currie made this move to prove that the future head coach would have total control of the program and support from the AD. Jennings may have had mounting issues that made using him as this example a no-brainer.

Theory may be far fetched but it does bode well for candidates interested in the job.

Mayfield got suspended a game

Mayfield didn't verbally attack his coaching staff on social media in an embarrassing display of profanity and sentence fragments.

Stop justifying JJ's behavior in comparison to others. Judge it on its own merit, and keep in mind his previous transgressions.

I'd feel the same way. I personally don't know why Kelly and Gaulden haven't been held more accountable for their on field actions. Don't care how good they are. Winning is great...but to me it isn't life and death. Teaching young idiots to be better men is my personal preference.

And before I'm accused of being a bad fan who settles for mediocrity, save it. I'm simply a grown up who REALLY wants my team to win every game...but would gladly sacrifice that for a world filled with better human beings than it is now.

Joe Mixon visciously hit a woman and was suspended. Jauan says what is on all of our minds and gets dismissed. Wow!!

I️ agree that JJ took it too far with his choice of words, but perhaps Currie should have got his Mai Tai sippin’ ass back to Knoxville to hear JJ’s complaints before allegedly signing off on this dismissal.

If this staff/admin allowed Jennings to remain on the team after not going to class since September, and decides to dismiss him for airing his grievances (however stupid it may have been), then we have a much larger problem at our University.

For that comparison to work they’d need to be at the same institution. What’s acceptable at Oklahoma has never been the standard at Tennessee and that dates back well before Switzer. I’m still interested in these rumors that JJ hasn’t attended class since his injury. That’s protected information, so we’ll never know the particular but if so, he’s been on a short leash anyway. Maybe in good academic standing he gets a suspension. Who’s to know?

You telling me Hurd didnt contribute to some of those 9 wins last year? You may want to go back and remind yourself

While there is some truth to that...he hurt almost as much as he helped. See UGA and S. Carolina for examples off the top of my head. That UGA fumble left a very bad taste in my mouth.

One thing JJ and Hurd have in common - Getting panties wadded up may have cost them millions in the NFL.

He came back and scored a td in that UGA game. Every score in that game was important. He saved the app st game. The guy contributed to some of the 9 wins last year, may not like it or him but he did.

You're right... They win...

I feel like there is some bias since Jennings is one of the best players and was part of the one of the greatest plays in UT history with that catch...If this was some 3rd string full back would people feel the same?

Jennings already had gotten in trouble once before. He did himself absolutely no favor by talking like that about the coaching staff. Jennings problem was that he expressed a perfectly fine sentiment in a terrible way. You don't use the words he did or the insults he did. He blatantly said "eff the coaching staff". It doesn't matter who you are, that's terrible behavior and you don't want to see that in someone that should be a leader. Even if you don't like or admire the coaches, you respect them while they are there and set a good example.

Sad for Jennings. But you can't blame Hoke for Jennings being so stupid recording himself.

Look I’d be upset if the player dismissed was someone like Evan Berry but this was more than deserved.

He didn’t show up for practices, supposedly quit the team 4 times and then gets mad he doesn’t get a start and so he decides to bad mouth the staff on social media? They might be a joke but then again he should look in the mirror.

Again...I don't disagree that he contributed. I have no ill will towards a 20 year old I've never met. Just didn't care for his laissez faire attitude at times. That's all. I hope he learned from it and is a successful player in the NFL...or wherever he ends up.

Would any of us have jobs if we posted a video like that of our boss and the management in our company?

These young men are not employees of the University.

JJ was a very talented football player that chose to commit 3 or 4 years of his football career to the University of Tennessee. His commitment along with the commitment from all of the players on the roster has not been upheld by the coaching staff(s) that have been in place.

JJ was wrong for what he did, but comparing it to an employee and employer is unfair.
