IUPUI Transfer: Ian Chiles (UT commit 5/13/14)

he is a depth guy and does have some ability - i am not sure what you expected this late in the game - but he has some talent - has some experience and doesnt tie up a scholly for more than 1 year

seems like a pretty good get imo

how good is he going to be in the SEC - who knows - but again he isnt keeping coach from going after big time prospects next year when basically the whole class hasnt already signed

I'm not opposed to him making the roster. I just hope we have better options on the floor.

Here are his stats vs Northwestern out of the Big 10.

IUPUI: I. Chiles 19 Pts, 7 Reb, 2 Ast, 1 Stl, 3 Blk

He had 12 points and 5 boards vs Missouri.

IUPUI: I. Chiles 21 Pts, 2 Reb, 1 Ast, 2 Stl, 1 Blk vs Marquette

His team was awful and he was asked to do everything and he was able to do this against major conference teams, I think he's probably worth getting on the floor here. Especially given our complete lack of other PGs on the roster.

At IUPUI he was asked to score the basketball, and he was able to do that. UT will be asking for him to bring the ball up, and look for his shot within the offense. To look at his fg% and determine he sucks is just plain retarded.

Hate to be a negavol, but this guy sucks. If all you do is score and you shoot 42% in mid-major conferences, the SEC will not be a good place for you. He's only 6' 1" and he's not a PG. More turnovers than assists.

Good luck to the guy, but I hope he doesn't see the floor.
I think you're going to be disappointed. He and Mostella are the closest thing to a PG we have. He should get serious minutes

Didn't realize he's a Louisville guy. So cheering for him even more. Solid pick up. Hope we get the bigs we need. This team will have all summer and some of fall to gel. Shouldn't be a problem.

Shooting 42% when you're the only one on the team that can score will have an effect. Nobody is expecting him to come in and average 15 like he did at IUPUI. He'll be a solid contributor that can come in and provide that 5th year leader ship. I hope Darius returns and we get Owens. I think this team will be fine.

his TO ratio was very low. Very few assists because of his role.

Yea bc the SEC is such an awesome basketball conf. It's about 5 teams deep then it's pretty weak. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Maryland and Oregon doesn't think he sucks. Nor does Bruce Pearl. Never go full retard.

Kinda hard to have a ton of assists if you don't have anyone to pass to that can score. Just sayin.

Would you prefer the invisible man or Pops play PG instead?

Story in a nutshell is CDT was a man only defense until opposing teams were pulling Faried away from the basket setting picks and he didn't like his big man being out there. A GA from Pitino came to Morehead and showed him the press and drop to zone system from Pitino and he switched without hesitation.

Yeah I can't wait to see this offense and defense and how it works. I really hope we don't have any late game blunders. Where we are going one on one to score. I can't wait to see a UT team press again!

No it's not. They are scholarship players at IUPUI. It's not HS. If you are a good passer you will get more than 1.8 apg in a mid-major conference. There is no explanation other than he's not good at setting up others.

Ratio or rate? His turnovers might be low, and I like that, but I've never heard of a PG who has more turnovers than assists, no matter what role they play.

Let me stop bashing this kid now. He is a Vol. I will root for him to the bitter end. Hopefully I'm wrong about him. I'd be glad to be wrong about him.
