IUPUI Transfer: Ian Chiles (UT commit 5/13/14)

Sure will. 13 schollies to give, 11 are taken up. Glad to finally almost have our full squad for next year. I give CDT an A for his recruiting and an A+ when we land Carmichael and Owens

Yeah can't wait to see what CDT can do with a full year to recruit!! Many people were doubting whether or not we'd have much depth next year or not, and I think we'll have a clear answer after this week.

I do think some guys who aren't completely ready will be playing. I think Owens and one of Carmichael/McGhee gets good minutes even though they may not be completely ready, but that's what happens in an overhaul. Hopefully they exceed my expectations as freshmen and learn a lot from their experience they get as freshmen. Donnie did as good of a job as he could. Everyone wanted Cofer, but he went all in and Phil wasn't feeling it. Oh well he still got the roster filled as soon as a week after Phil decided FSU

The great thing about the way this worked out is that we will have 4 open scholarships for 2015 because McKnight and Chiles are grad transfers. Then by my count, we will have at least 4 for 2016 because of the two Juco's that leave along with Reese and Moore. That is nice balance and allows the staff to start building relationships.

Scoring points next year won't be an issue anymore after all these new pickups. Hopefully rebounding and defense will be competitive

Looks like Chiles is coming to play PG...

@iPutOnFaMyCity Hey my man, you coming to run the point? Need a distributor/scorer at that spot. #opportunity #Vols

@Buck_Sweep_VFL yup

Writing up the story now, couple things, says he is definitely looking at playing PG in Knoxville and getting the chance to do that was one of the big reasons he picked the Vols. Wanted the chance to show that he was more than just a scorer and that he felt like on his visit Tyndall showed that he had the confidence in him that he could play the position. Says he chose Vols over Maryland and Auburn. He will be here for the first session of summer school.

Did not realize this but his sister, India Chiles, was an All-SEC softball player for the Lady Vols in 2008. Has been to campus several times as a result of that and cited it as a real reason for his comfort level.

Will have a story up in a bit. Needless to say another solid pick-up this late in the game.

Chiles is not coming here to be counted on scoring 20 points every night.

He is being brought in to play the role of point guard and be part of the new Tyndall team concept.

Hate to be a negavol, but this guy sucks. If all you do is score and you shoot 42% in mid-major conferences, the SEC will not be a good place for you. He's only 6' 1" and he's not a PG. More turnovers than assists.

Good luck to the guy, but I hope he doesn't see the floor.

lol

Nine guys will see the floor more than likely for at least 14 minutes a game. That is how Tyndall has ran his teams every year. He plays nine guys with the last guy getting around 13 to 14 minutes.

he is a depth guy and does have some ability - i am not sure what you expected this late in the game - but he has some talent - has some experience and doesnt tie up a scholly for more than 1 year

seems like a pretty good get imo

how good is he going to be in the SEC - who knows - but again he isnt keeping coach from going after big time prospects next year when basically the whole class hasnt already signed
