It's with a heavy heart....

I was in Louisville today with the snow, left early. Something about Rubin that sticks with me even though I have never met him. Talked to him on various vol websites for 5 years though. I always make sure my seat belt is buckled, and always remember how hard he was pushing for his family to have a great Christmas. The guy was a great man, and he touched the lives of all that he met, and by reading this thread, many more that he didn't meet but interacted with on a daily basis. I hope I am as respected when my time comes.

I think of him every time I log on to VN. Expect to see his post at any time. I'm gonna leave his picture as my avi a little longer to honor him.

I just wanted to let everyone know that VolinArizona and I visited with Yvonne this evening. While there we handed over a check well in excess of $10,000. She was so appreciative and said how touched she was that complete strangers came through in their time of need. She showed us a huge box full of cards and letters that she claimed many from people she didn't even know. She said she plans on responding to each and every one, but she said it may take her a year to get to all of them.

She also said that Rubin's funeral was a little over $10,000 so it looks like we covered the funeral expenses 100%. I think that is huge and Volnation should be very proud as I certainly am to know that we took care of that expense for Yvonne and the kids.

While there we reminisced about Rubin and and his love for the Big Orange and Volnation. The word addicted came up a time or two as Arizona and I admitted that we probably spend too much time on the site. She said she intends to join Volnation if she can figure out the process.

She mentioned StoVol and how much it meant to her for him to make the trip to the funeral knowing that he had never met Rubin in person. She also talked about how she had went through this thread and was touched by the comments and the general caring that was obviously on display.

As to how they are doing, they appear to be doing well. Yvonne said she is finally getting to feel better from the flu. She said she's coping with the loss better but said reality will catch up to her from time to time. She mentioned they are trying to stay busy and with sports it's not too difficult. When they do have a minute, she said they head to Chucky Cheese or something fun for the kids. Her sister was there tonight also and I think she's been a huge help to Yvonne both emotionally and with the extra things that she needs help with.

Finally, after speaking with Arizona, he's going to keep the donation site active indefinitely, so feel free to donate if you like. When a significant amount of funds accumulate we'll get her the funds.

Again, I would like to reiterate how proud I am to be a part of this fan base. To think that the original goal was $1000 and within just a few minutes we met that and kept raising the goal till we exceeded $11,000. How unbelievable it was to hand over a check for that kind of money to someone that really needed and appreciated it. Each one of you made that possible! And, please do not underestimate the non-monetary support through prayer, notes, and cards and how that had such a huge impact.

God Bless and Go Big Orange!

Good men. Thanks to you and Az for doing all this. Karma too and everyone who donated or sent well wishes. Hope to get together with you all sometime. Truly feels more like a family here. I hope to donate again come tax time. Bless you all.

Thank you for the update. Hard to put a coherent sentence together to convey the other things I'm feeling about this family and those who are there for them.

When they run thru that T for the first time this year, I am going to think about RR and know he is watching it as it happened.

Thank you for the update :hi: - I think a lot of VolNation feels a strong attachment to this family...even though many of us have never met. I check this thread first thing every time I log on and am happy when I see the donation go up or a note posted. RIP RR - some very fine folks got your back. GBO

I am so proud of what Volnation has done for the Coffey family. Last night was a bit surreal, but I was very thankful to be able to be the liaison (along with inVOLuntary) between the Coffeys and Volnation. I believe God saw a need and God provided through us. Or if you aren't religious, there was a need and the collective Vol spirit made sure it was met.

InVOLuntary (which seems weird to call him that now that I know him) is a hell of a guy and a great dude. He has done a lot for the Coffey family and is one of the nicest guys. Always very kind when talking and planning with me.

Rubin's passing stirred a lot of emotions within me, as did y'all's outpouring of support. I think after last night, I feel compelled to remind everyone (including myself) that there are real people behind each username. Behind each post is a real person, with a real family, with real friends, with real feelings. I know that seems so simple, but most of us say things on VN we'd never say face to face. That struck me. If it wouldn't be acceptable to say to someone face to face, why say it here? I was one of the worst offenders, and this changed my mindset. We will all disagree on coaching, recruiting, everything, but let's do it with kind words and kind discussions and debates.

I urge us all to RRR in all we do here.

Very well said. Thanks for the kind words. You VIA are a classy guy. This event has changed the way I post. I hope many have noticed.

We are all on the same team. While we all have differing opinions of how to get there, we all want the same results, for the Vols to be champions.

This tragedy has shown what we as a community and as fans of the Big Orange are capable of achieving. This is the true definition of Vol For Life!

Thank you all so much . Rubin was a great friend . He would have done anything for anybody , He was very loyal with high character, we played flag football in an adult league he was our free safety and enforcer . a guy on the other team grabbed my shorts trying to get my flag and he fussed at the ref for not throwing a flag for holding , the next time that guy caught the ball he came clear across the field and ripped dudes sweat pants clean off of him ,all he had left was his underwear and waistband of the pants ,looked at the ref and said I dare you to throw a flag on that , you didn't have much to worry about with Rubin on your side , I think nobody really messed with me cause he was my best friend . I know Yvonne really appreciates all that everyone of ya'll have done. I can hear Rubin now ,What up Cook , with NSD coming up its gonna be tough he always texted me every recruit when there Letter came through .THank ya'll so much . God Bless & I SAID ITS GREAT TO BE A TENNESSEE VOL. I SAID ITS GREAT TO BE A TENNESSEE VOL !!!!!!!!!!!!! VFL
