It's with a heavy heart....

Hey guys, got an update for the Saturday Powell Youth League fundraiser. WATE in Knoxville is going to run a story tonight about this fundraiser so hopefully we will have a big turnout. All three gyms in Powell used for youth basketball (Powell High, Powell Middle, and Powell Sports Complex) will take donations all day on Saturday. If anyone lives in the area and wants to come by to donate it will last from about 9AM to 4PM.

That is awesome!

Tony Basilio does a lot of charitable work. A guy contacted him today named Kevin Sparks and mentioned two families that have lost fathers in the last couple of weeks. Anyone know if one was RR?

I finally got home from work this week and donated. I was going to do something else with that money and try to be charitable with that money this christmas, specifically, send stephenk22 over in england a copy of "football as a wargame: the annotated journals of Robert Neyland" but I cant do that just yet. Stephen, if youre on here I know you'll understand, but fear not, I will get around to sending you some TN gear. It really trips me out and warms my heart at the same time to not just think, but KNOW, that if I died suddenly you guys would take care of my family. My belief in what it means to be a Tennessean and a Volunteer has never been stronger, and if you believe in a higher power, you must believe that his tragic death had a purpose. I believe one of them, not the sole purpose of course, was to make guys like me and you backup and reevaluate, to be thankful and appreciative of each other. So Rich, God bless you brother, and take solace that as long as I am on this earth, your wife and children will never have to be concerned about having milk in the refrigerator, or whether theyre going to be able to make the electric bill this month. I would encourage other posters who know the family to reach out to us if the family ever reaches troubled waters.

StoVol - what you said really touched me - I choke up every time I try to read it to my husband...All I can add is a lyric from a song written by a friend:

"While the music is still playing, take every opportunity to dance..."

Gawd I love VolNation.

I hear you sister. This whole situation and VN's response has had a big impact on me this holiday season. I lost my father at five years old so it's really painful to go back in time and try to remember what it was like. It's a wound so deep that you spend half your life trying to cover it up. I truly hurt for his sons, not just now but when they're going to be 10, 15, 18 years old. I was wondering today if some fellow on here that is close to them will be able to find the time to make it to their ball games. I know the feeling of looking up in the stands and well... You get the picture.

P.S. If someone could repost the hour and address of the visitation tomorrow I'd I appreciate it. I'd like to drive from Crossville and give my condolences to the family and to meet some of the fine posters on here. I'm really proud of you all and I'm not just saying that. Your families have instilled something great in you and I'm humbled to be near it

Services are at Roses Mortuary in Knoxville, receiving friends Saturday 5-7 with services immediately following. Graveside services Sunday at 2.

You might check with the funeral home to verify that is still correct. Represent us all when you go. We're right there with you.

Just checked out their site online. There are two locations. Does anybody know which one?

Found this photo album on the website. Really hits home.

1421 North Broadway it is. Thanks volly. Any of you homies planning to attend come up and say hi. I'll try to find a name tag of some sort and write StoVol on it so you'll know me.

Never met the guy in my life but you can just tell from the pictures he had an infectious smile that lit up a room & was a genuinely good person.

This is a tragic loss. I just put some money into the fund to help out the family as best I can at such a tough time. The way this community has rallied is absolutely unbelievable. I am so proud to be a Vol right now - there are not many communities like this.

Thoughts go out to everyone affected by this.

And a special thanks to Stovol for giving me the heads up about this... I have been busy with work the last few days and missed the announcement.

Thank you Stephen! It's amazing that the Vol Spirit reaches around this entire world. I'm so glad a Vol was at that party that night when you mentioned college football. I hope he comes on here some day and finds you again! The guy is a good recruiter IMO. Will definitely sign the book for you tomorrow and tell them a Brit will be lighting a candle in their honor Christmas morning. God bless you for donating man.... Incredible

Btw.. I mentioned you by name in post 447 of this thread. I was justifying not sending you some Vol swag. I or another Vol will insure you're wearing Tn gear this year! You can't go to the local sports store and by Vol stuff there I'm sure. You will be representing Tn in style in no time. I gave your present money to RichRollin's family

I too am glad that I met the Vol at that wedding. Changed my life.

No need to justify it, you kindness and generosity has been used for a greater cause in this instance. I don't expect anything from you or anyone on this site, I get enough knowledge from you guys teaching me about Tennessee and College sports. I am grateful for that alone.
