I think we all want to be supportive of Holly but there is cause for some major concerns. The program has slowly declined over the past five seasons. Players are not improving very much during their careers at UT. We are seeing the same issues and mistakes game after game. The skill set of each player needs work. They are not fundamentally sound and show a lack of discipline.
For the past three seasons, we are told in post game press conferences after losses that the players did not follow the game plan. Why not? What actions were taken to fix that issue? Today, one player stated the opponent was overlooked, but that
response seemed to shock and anger Holly. Obviously, the staff and players are not on the same page. Fans argue that the roster doesn't allow the staff the opportunity to discipline the offenders because the team has no depth. True perhaps for this year, but what about last year and the year before that? Currently, I don't think there is a Holly Warlick recruited player in the WNBA. That fact should mean something to our fan base. Is Tennessee no longer developing players worthy of the WNBA? Looks like it.
My point is that something needs to be done before this once proud program sinks even further. Although I am not a fan of
Kentucky, I do applaud Mitchell in the fact that there was some major problems with his program last off season and he publicly addressed them, took responsibilty and promised the fan base he'd do better. By all accounts, the Wildcats have had a solid season.
Perhaps Holly could learn from that. Reach out to the fan base, make some changes to the program, especially the staff. Do something. The current situation is not working, and doing nothing about it is eventually going to get her fired.
