First, I'm an old hippie, tree hugging, would be called commie in the politics thread, liberal..... and golden parachutes, sweetheart buyouts aren't offensive. Two entities sign the contract and if neither are under duress, both could NOT sign the contracts. God Bless America for contract law.

You make my point for me. The UT admin CONTINUES to hire poorly but that's not the fault of the coaches for signing contracts weighted in their favor. Good for them for taking good care of their families.

I TOTALLY agree that admin is to blame and I TOTALLY disagree that there are tons of "unfound gem" coaches in D1 (or anywhere) that could "turn around" an SEC program. Were that true, we'd have seen better examples over the years, statistically, but very few "gems" have turned up in any program from off the radar hires. Saban and Meyer were HARDLY outcasts, unknowns, or "hidden gems" when hired but guys just looking for their niche....... and, they never worked for peanuts.

This idea that you're going to find some "unfound coach" to step into the SEC and lead us to the top is as crazy as thinking the next Microsoft CEO can possibly be found working at some tiny "we build it for you" computer shop in Seattle....... and he's going work for just a hundred thousand dollars a year and no stock incentives.

Just stop. I get that you're pissed about the record of lousy hires. I'm pissed too. The change needs to be in THOSE DOING THE HIRING...... not contract structure.

Anybody thought how another prospective coach would look at UT trying so hard to not have to pay the previous coach...for cause or.... anything for that matter.. would be a huge red flag to that prospective coach? I'd be like "man they could find a way to not pay me if they wanted:"

Not allowing Pruitt to hire coaches is the dumbest thing to do. By the time they give him permission the good coaches will working under new contracts and to buy them out of those will cost even more money, than what it’ll take to bring them here in the first place. Also by not just firing him we are going to end up settling for another coach/staff. They should either fire him now and find cause later or they should allow him to do his job and hire coaches. Pushing the can down road only sets this program back dramatically. Recruiting will be greatly effected. Plus who knows which players will stay under a pieced together staff...

I mean, the market also gave us $10,000 pineapples and tulips, so I’m sure we’d agree there’s a point when price exceeds value.

At some point this coaching bubble has to burst also, no?

Many people tried to help and mentor pruitt. He refused and jacked everything up. He is not dumb but thinking you already know everything as a first time head coach is idiotic.

Lots of coaches don’t want to play BAMA every year, some don’t want to be in the SEC. I know you’re going to say well we don’t want them. Where has that got us in last 15 years. We are going to need someone who has SEC EXPERIENCE, BEEN A HEAD COACH AND CAN RECRUIT.

No one this to be fact, including you. But, it sounds about right. UT can't get out of it's own way and be successful in football anymore. There are too many chiefs and not enough indians!!!

Sure, but there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with coaches refusing to sign contracts that aren't guaranteed and grossly inflated. It's LITERALLY nice work if you can get it.

The issue and emphasis at UT HAS to be with the admin that has kept a revolving door of sub-par hires at many levels of the football program. I, personally, feel the admin, boosters, leadership.... call them "those in charge" = TIC..... are no longer focused on having a competitive program.

We need honest answers from TIC. If they're at a place where they feel the University of Tennessee should be satisfied with an also ran SEC football program, then we truly can vote with our support and loyalty.

Coaches taking good contracts haven't created the crap we endure at UT, TIC hiring, buying out, not buying out, and essentially mismanaging the football program created this.

We need to look at issues well beyond coaching.
