It's [not yet] official, Rick Barnes in as head coach

THIS IS REALITY:
For perspective, Barnes has been to the NCAA Tournament 22 times in his 28 seasons as a head coach, and the Tennessee program has been to the NCAA Tournament 20 times in its history.

Are you six?

Excuse me but didn't your name used to be StokedforZo? I think that says it all about your level of basketball knowledge.

You should be on the Golden Bear site singing Zo's praises or something instead of paying attention to me.

We hire a coach with a winning resume and yet we still have some fans on here b*tching about it? Unbelievable.

Really? Bash the guy for showing support for the coach?

Yes when he's a crappy coach unworthy of support. Subpar coaches don't need to be supported. What they need is to be shown the door and a good coach brought in that can win.

What if the situation had been us hiring him away from Texas last year instead of hiring CDT?

Vol fans would be doing cartwheels down the aisles.

Facts: this is one of the biggest names UT has ever brought in at the head coaching position in any sport. His resume is better than all of UT hoops. He can recruit and develop players (see: NBA draft picks). He is very unlikely to get into trouble with the 'AA.

I think the change will energize and motivate him, and I think it's very reasonable to expect a darn fine basketball team in two years.

I like the hire and the thought we may well have a motivated veteran who can coach and bring in talent at a level we just haven't had at Tennessee in a long time.

I don't know what happened at Texas. But I do think you can open a lot of doors for yourself in Atlanta, Memphis, and elsewhere in the nation's hoops hotbeds with the following words:

"I was Kevin Durant's coach in college."

He didn't waste time feeling sorry for himself. The attitude he's had since his dismissal has been more determined than sorrowful. If he's hungry to prove Texas wrong, then that will serve us extremely well.

Hell of a lot better ccm but rather had Wojo, Drew or Hurley! Barnes is better than I expected though so not all bad!

Barnes is a fantastic hire. Great recruiter, well respected throughout basketball and a winner. Cannot satisfy all of the people, EVER. He will instantly (re)establish Tennessee has a player in basketball, not only in the SEC but nationally.
Sometimes the stars just align perfectly, this is one of those times.

We got back to a bowl game in football, turned in another stellar recruiting class in football, and then what looks like another men's basketball disaster looks like we are getting a respected, well established head coach. Maybe our streak of bad luck of being a Vol fan is finally changing.

Are you saying the" curse" might finally be over?

As I said, I don't love it but I like it a lot. I believe he may end exactly what we need but we'll see.
