It's Les Miles

This is going to suck so hard. ☹ Too many people just look at record and numbers, they are just too lazy to really look into it. There were great reasons Fulmer was fired, and there were great reasons Miles was fired. We are going to get an up close look at why Miles was fired. It is going to suck.

look at it from a glass half full perspective.. He was too stubborn to change at LSU. Maybe getting fired and being out of the game for a year has humbled him alittle bit.

I have no expectation of any real success with Miles. I expect it to be like having a wisdom tooth pulled...with no anesthesia. 😨

I look at it like this......last yr, we were picked pre-season to win the SEC East.....but besides that, we've had no legit, lofty expectations to really make any noise in the SEC(we haven't been able to do crap in the East while it's been weak the last 4yrs, moreless even be able to compete with any push from the West. The West has literally dominated UT.....even the lower tier West teams like Arky, Ole Miss, A&M, ect.), so i feel like even tho Les Miles has his obvious flaws, if we brought in a solid OC with him, and were able to land even just Top20 ranked recruiting classes on the regular each year (which I believe we can hit Top10 classes with Les recruiting), I feel like we would regularly have higher expectations over the next 5yrs. Legitly be able to assume that we would handle our business each yr against Vandy, UK, Mizzou, and SC (which we haven't been able to assume in sum yrs that those are "gimme games" like years past). And once we establish ourself back in the Top3 in the East with Florida and Georgia, we would be back to atleast a Top 25 team. Which is way above where we are at this point. We're not even in the Top 60 right now. Sad stuff. I'd atleast feel confident that we'd be in consideration for a Top 25 finish each year with Les Miles as HC. We gotta walk again before we can run.....and we were barely crawling this yr (we regressed badly). LSU expected a Top25 team yearly with Les, all the way til he was relieved of his duties. Most yrs they had Top15 expectations. It's been a long stretch of disappointing years since we were able to "expect" a Top 25 finish multiple yrs in a row. Gimme Les as HC, lure Tee as OC, and sign old Chavis as DC, and our Top25 expectations are back as a legit reality. With an outside shot each yr at a Top 15 finish. Playing in meaningful Bowl games again. And a Top25 finish would most likely be our floor after a yr to get his flow going. With a Top10 ceiling. I'll gladly accept that right now. I don't believe ANY of Jeff Brohm or Chad Morris or Dave Doeren or David Cutcliffe would come straight in with an expected Top25-30 floor and Top10 ceiling. No way, shape, or form am I saying Les Miles is the best we could get (I think that ship sailed after the first week of swings and misses again), but I think it'd definitely be a positive direction that would be a major step up and improvement over where we've been stuck at for the last 5-7yrs. With a Les, Tee, and Chavis led team we would be back to where we were when we moved on from Phil in 2008. It'd be the best staff and direction we've had in 6yrs. So I'm ready to expect a Top25 team again, whatever it takes. Then we can work on Top10 in a couple yrs. Gotta get back to solid Top25 first. It's been a ruff stretch since 2008, ha. Smh

I've been on the fence myself, but this is a realistic and logical argument.

Alot of irrational fans believe "we make a big splash hire, and then we make the College Football Playoffs and sing Rocky Top!", ha. Don't we all wish it worked like that. Alot will be disappointed, because no matter who is hired, it will be a process. We need experience, passion, recruiting, and definitely some ORANGE-BLOOD on the staff. Les would be a solid option to lead us for sum years. And HE WANTS to be the Vols coach too, and he's not a young "Up and comer looking to jump around or bounce to the NFL". He just wants to coach a winner. He's earned a chance, and we need his skill-set of leadership and recruiting. Not to mention that he's 1 of only a handful of current coaches that actually have a Ring on their hand. He's not a Bad coach whatsoever. He's won before, and he'll win again with the right situation. And we might just be the right spot to set him up for success again. The East is alot easier than the West. He knows the SEC just as good as any. Not a horrible option like some make it seem. A Top 25 team would be a dang good thing these days.

Agreed. He might not be a long-term (ten year) solution but he might just be what we need right now in the short-term, but with the right assistants. I just hope that whoever we hire (within reason), that the fanbase gives a little more rope to Fulmer and doesn't revolt immediately.
We're all hungry and have been for a long time.

Edit: speeeeling

We've been hungry too dang long. Time to eat!!! We're so far down, we gotta go UP now, right?! Ha. Gotta! I think the time is soon. This mess might end up a blessing. Go Vols!

Tennessee coaching search: Phil Fulmer has reportedly reached out to Les Miles - CBSSports.com

Tennessee HC Rumors: Phil Fulmer Has Contacted Les Miles About Opening | Bleacher Report

Looked through some numbers to try make me feel better about not getting leach. Just in case this actually goes through...

AT LSU:
-114-34 overall
-7 ten win seasons out of 12 years at lsu
-9 out of 12 recruiting classes were top 10 (rivals)
-2-1 in sec championship games
-8-4 bowls . Never missed a bowl.
-3 bcs bowl appearances
-2 natty appearances, 1 ring
-7-1 vs Mullen
-3-1 vs muschamp
-3-6 vs saban :(

And all this was done while playing in the hardest division in ncaa.

I hate to admit, i was more excited about leach. maybe because I'm still confused about all the behind the door shadiness, but miles is a winner. Not only does he have sec experience, but sec success.

He has more wins against Saban than any other coach in the SEC and maybe the country.

Hello! That’s what I’ve been saying since the Georgia game!

My eyes are bleeding. Do you even paragraph bro?

He didnt build the LSU program. Saban did. He maintained it for a while in spite off foolhardy decisions with click management. Eventually though it became obvious, he was a bozo, and the program was being run into the ground. He was like Butch Jones meets old Fulmer.

Throw out his first 3 years at LSU and he still has a record of 80-28 record in one of the toughest divisions in the country.
