Someone finally had the audacity to stand up to Haslam and do what is right. John Currie went rogue. He was humiliated repeatedly as the result of following Haslam's orders. He finally woke up. He took an unsanctioned trip to the West Coast and had all but hired a terrific football coach who could have rebuilt this program. Leach would have done things his own way. Haslam wasn't having it. He had his puppet, Chancellor Davenport, fire Currie and promote a good ole boy as AD who will do his bidding.
Yesterday wasn't a coup. Yesterday was a coup being put down. Fulmer will hire a head football coach who follows Haslam's marching orders because this has worked so well for the Cleveland Browns.
I had almost forgiven Fulmer for growing complacent as the head coach and allowing our football program to flounder. This reopens old wounds. Fulmer reverted to his back-stabbing ways and took from us a golden opportunity to make UT football fun and nationally relevant again. It was Fulmer's dagger that ultimately assassinated the Leach to Tennessee deal. I will never, ever forgive Fulmer for that. He loves himself and being in a position of power more than he loves Tennessee.
