Fulmer’s refusal to change offense or hire a proven man to run the offense was his downfall.. defense and having someone help with game time decisions will be Heups..
I want to him to be great but this maybe the best we get outta him..

Heupel is exceptional at developing QB play. Aguilar had a bad game last night. All of Heupel's QBs have played above their ability. Kiffin and Heupel are probably the best 2 QB developing coaches in the country.

I do think he needs to upgrade his staff and let them coach. Terrible hires was certainly Fulmer's downfall. No question about it. I think with Fulmer it was more that he didn't want to be upstanged, I truly believe this. Think his selfishness and stubbornness got the best of him.

And this happens way too much at Tennessee. Allowing struggling coaches or QBs to have career performances against us has become something of a tradition. It pre-dates Huepel’s arrival. I’m hoping he somehow figures out how to change the culture sufficiently to snuff out the consistent pi$$ing away of massive opportunities on the field.

I think Coach Heupel has what it takes. He just hasn’t managed to do it yet in year 5. There remains quite a bit of damaged left from a clownshow of former coaches and ADs to fix.

However, It’s a difficult task as there are 7-8 SEC fan bases who think they should compete for championships. The SEC is brutal.

I've said it before, but the NIL and portal have drastically changed college football. Paying kids and then giving them the portal to transfer and play rather quickly, has almost necessitated a GM like position in college football. Coaches don't have time to develop players and why develop when you can hit the portal with some cash to get an instant impact player.

However, Josh's playcalling and time clock management have always been suspect but its hard to tell until he dumps his coordinators and we see where the blame lies. I'd also add a new S&C coach as we are injury ridden.

Last year, I think we benefited more from an easy schedule, Ala had an off year, Fla was trash, Oklahoma had more injuries than I think I've seen any college team have, the rest of our SEC schedule and OOC schedule was mostly trash. The 2 best teams we played last year was GA and Ohio St. We were outscored 73-34 vs those 2. I think in our SEC wins this year, the teams are a combined 2-14 in the SEC.

Dell McGee at GA St beat Clark Lea and Sharone Moore and Mike Norvell also beat Deboer. Not sure beating either was a big feat. Those 2 teams combined for 10 losses last year. And CJH also lost to Sam Pittman, who is currently unemployed because he got fired for sucking

We've yet to see that at UT.

His best QBs have been transfers that have spent little time actually being coached by him, and not QBs that he recruited out of high school, and developed for a few seasons.

Recruiting at an elite level is a relic of the past. Having enough NIL money and manage a roster is the new norm. He may not be good at that but signing top 20 players has less to do with recruiting ability and more with what your team can offer. We don’t have endless funds contrary to what many fans believe
