If you don't see your coach winning championships, he does not need to be your coach. 8 wins will not cut it, especially when you look at Dooley's soft non-conference schedule in 2012. Demand excellence!
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
I'm ready for the next dude.
We hired Dooley when no one else would take the job. The situation would be worse if we make a change now. No one wants to walk into this mess.
Dooley will not win us a championship but the program needs some stability and a few positive things to happen before we look for another coach.
I posted this on another site earlier:
I think Dooley can get it going and consistently win 8-10 games per year. I don't see him winning any championships.
That being said, Tennessee cannot fire Dooley right now.
I am not trying to give the coaching staff a pass but this team is bad. There is very litte talent. There is even less experience.
There were only four players on the field today (Malik Jackson, Bray, DaRick Rogers, and Prentiss Waggner) who could make the two deep on LSU, Bama, Arky, or UGA. Two of those were playing with significant injuries.
There is only one senior who is a legitimate SEC starter in Malik Jackson.
There is only one junior who is a legitimate SEC starter in Waggner.
The cluster frick left by Fulmer, Kiffin, and Hamilton was easily a three to four year rebuilding process. I know that there are several examples of coaching turnover that had immediate results. But I can guarantee that those situations did not involve three straight losing seasons and 38 players being kicked off the team or transferring during that time.
The Oline coach (Hiestand) should be fired. A running backs coach needs to be hired.
IMO, Dooley should win 8-10 next year based upon the talent coming back. If not, he should be put on notice that his fourth year could be his last.
I believe most posters on here do not realize how bad we are.
Go Big Orange!
It isn't going to be positive or stable no matter when he exits. Wait till next year? If he gets fired it will be because our record sucks. Good chance Hunter and/ or Bray will be gone. Exactly when do you expect Dooley to have this program in stable shape? No matter the year he gets fired, this program is going to be in the dumps when it happens.
your a foolSorry but the OP is trying to say we have no real talent then that IS DOOLEYS fault, he's had 2 classes to bring in talent and he really hasn't. Sure if he was still coaching in the WAC the talent he's brought in would be great, but for the SEC its just not enough to cut it. He's too worried about character and therefor ignores actual talent. Sorry but even though his classes have ranked high, they sure haven't panned out to be what they should have. So either its Dooley has a knack for finding all the highly rated players that won't actually pan out, or, the more likely scenario, Dooley has no idea how to develop players.
Its been pretty obvious he doesn't even know the basics of how to coach a winning team. First you base your play calling off the actual talent you have, not force your players to run plays that may expose their weaknesses. Two, accept responsibility for your actions, when you call the worst plays at the worst time don't blame the players because they couldn't lead into gold. Third, when your down by 2-3 scores going into the fourth quarter you pass at least twice as much as you run, not the other way around. Finally, change things up, do NOT become so predictable a 3yr old can tell what your gonna on the next play before the previous play is even over.
That's actually exactly what we are saying.
These Doolittle supporters are really grasping at straws tonight.
