Is this true?

SIAP, but Aguilar wont be here till the summer. It was said yesterday that he has to finish at UCLA first. Same with Nico. So, it would be pretty hard to declare him the startetr till he gets on campus and starts to practice. I would believe Merk has the advantage right now.
I think I read where Nico is doing his classes online (being the upstanding individual he is, he probably doesn't have someone do the online classwork for him) . Can Aguilar not do the same? Isn't Aguilar a grad transfer? Probably doesn't have to continue classes at UCLA to maintain eligibility. Every day he isn't working with receivers puts him further behind Merk and Mac.

If this is true, its not that Merk doesn't want to play here, it would be he has been recruited over and sees no chance of playing here, but I think this is not true about him transferring, with only like what 2 days left in the portal?
You're not getting recruited over when you were already going to be #2 with a white elephant at being #1, and they bring in a 1 year guy to be #1 OR #2 depending on how summer goes. His status for the '25 season is largely unchanged except he now has a shot at #1 a year earlier than planned. Regardless of what nico just did, he was never gonna be here past next season.

Haven't heard anything about the portal but don't be surprised if you hear Merklinger is trying to negotiate a large increase to his NIL payments.

Without regard to this specific rumor but over time guys are going to get burned enough that others don't follow their example. Nico while not what we wanted will cause guys like him in the future to stay put. It might even cause "handlers" to be chosen more wisely or given less rope.

If Merklinger is considering it then he should think it through. UT wasn't satisfied with the current QB room. That doesn't mean he won't be ready in a year or two and give himself the best chance of making the NFL by staying put. He can probably start right now for some big 4 programs and most below that. But is that his best option over time?

Aguilar's coach said in an interview, he had to "finish" at UCLA before he could leave. Probably right about the online classes.

Terrible take 😂😂 why would merk want to be here and be just a backup. Dude is too talented for that. Just because you want him here he is gonna go where he can play plain and simple and bringing in someone means you obviously don’t trust what you have. Why do you think so many qbs transfer including the one we just got. Because Nico will start for them. Duuhhhhhhhh
You have zero clue what you’re talking about. We HAVE to have 3 scholarship QB’s who can play, for depth alone.

I mean put yourself in his shoes. He knows Mac is the future and next year what we have coming in. Then you work your tail off and from what I’ve seen looks decent. Next day you come in and they get a raggedy transfer that they literally want to win the starting job. If heup believed in merk he wouldn’t be looking around. I would transfer if I was him for sure. Go start somewhere like unlv or Ohio ya know
We were always going to add another QB regardless. He wasn’t starting at the beginning of the year regardless when Nico was here. Again he has way more opportunity now than he did a few weeks ago.

But when Nico left he was then #1, so yes recruited over

Yeah I played football and basketball here in Texas, a lot more talent then where you are from im sure. But you are a hell of a keyboard warrior
Wear your lettermen jacket on Friday nights while drinking a bush latte in your HS parking lot?

I will be surprised if he IS. He is the middle guy between extremely high rated recruits. (Nico - Brandon)
With the exception of Ty Simpson at bubba. This usually ends up a guy that transfers.
GMac will have to be a phenom to win it his first season.
Joey A is a turnover machine learning a new system.

Merklinger will have to **** the bed or not live up to his 4star rating to not be QB1.

i hope Aguilar is a stud and leads us to a bunch of wins, but based on his film, that is not likely.

Unfortunately ******* the bed I'm afraid, is what we will see.

Yeah. I remember them JV days too.

Evaluating Texas HS talent is contextual to say the least. Yeah, they have alot of D1 talent, far more than most states...cause it's a friggin huge state. Also means it has alot more guys that are not elite talent and head on down to G5/FCS and the Lonestar Conference in D2. Per capita, GA prob runs neck and neck with Texas.

So, how do you figure he gets the auto bid for #1 without proving he earned it?
Just my opinion, fear, I suppose that it would just be handed to him. I hope there is real qb competition and the best one gets the start. I will say I hope Merk does well enough to earn the starting position, because it will not only help us this year, but will help us a lot next year, with a years playing time. I have no idea how much nil money our current qb on the roster are getting, I hope it at least equals Joey's though. I also just don't think Hype would use this much nil money on a guy to be a back up with only one year left if he wasn't planning on starting him.

If true, the Vols have gone from one of the hottest programs and a 10-2 season and playoff birth to no one wants to play quarterback here anymore in just weeks. Tell me how this happens in any scenario.

Could there be something going on with the staff behind the scenes? Is the OC trash and folks don't want to play for him? Is the lack of WRs and quality OL the issue? I could see any number of these being reasons.....
That was premature.
Really, I don't understand why some of you do this to yourselves.

Not true as it turns out, and should have never been regarded as anything but a "look at me" post from a guy who posts pictures of his unflushed toilet.

But hells bells, that was no impediment whatsoever to a few panicky couch-coaches bent on posting their psychological susceptibility.

@tidybowlchamps be more selective.

So we caved to this kid.....buddy hasn't done a damned thing lol.

It's the sad state of college football

Same as collegiate jumping to the pros, when they haven't done a damn thing in the NFL yet. The guy is on the team with the inside track to start; the inside track to losing him is pretend he has no marketable worth and not "cave".

I lol that some people just don't get this yet.
