It's a legitimate question and the answer could be yes.Is there something going on internally that we don’t know about? Divided locker room? Toxic work environment? I don’t understand how all our coaches with their combined championship pedigrees and experience didn’t have the team ready against a lack luster opponent. What is going on? Anyone have insider info?
Seriously....would love for someone in the know to give insight into this...something has to be going on internally to cause what we saw on the field. This just doesn't happen to a healthy program. Or a program that is healing and heading in the right direction. It's a legitimate question and the answer could be yes.
Play 'em both the next 2 games and if one doesn't outshine the other play'em both in Gainesville.Gus said Auburn has great leadership. The only leader we have is Bituli. He was out and it showed. And you can’t win when your qb is so gun shy he takes the shortest route every play. Check down savant. Hope he gets pulled against BYU and we go with Shrout or Maurer into Florida.
This is what bothered me. Last year I was able to somewhat satisfy myself with the usual excuses, many of which were and are true to a degree, youth, inexperience, weakness along the lines of scrimmage, but they looked so unmotivated yesterday, I mean, no effort at all, no pride. What happened yesterday should never happen, ever. Our current problems are deeper than x's and o's and Jimmies and Joes. I think part of the problem may be that Pruitt is so much of a hardtail, the players hate him, that's speculation of course, but it would fit what we just saw IN THE FIRST GAME mind you. Think Stannis Baratheon from Game of Thrones, the guy who was shot in Vietnam by his own troops in Animal House. They didn't want to fight yesterday, completely the opposite of what I saw from Georgia Tech against Clemson Thursday night. Georgia Tech was outmatched and they got killed but their players fought for their new coach. That's the true test of leadership and if it's missing, it's going to get a whole lot worse with who we have coming up on the schedule. BYU may very well cream us, we can't take UTC for granted, if yesterday's effort is brought to the game, that will be a dog fight, and Florida's defensive line will straight massacre our OL. Those who want JG gone may get their wish because he'll probably get Theismanned at some point in that game. From the disinterested and unprepared look they had today I think Jeremy Pruitt and his staff may have lost the team.
Welcome to the club.I hope the lockerroom is split. I hope the upper classmen are taking a beating. 10 months ago everyone here was crapping on CBJ's "guys" and agreeing we needed an infusion of talent. Those same guys are still bad. Our only answer...freshmen. Does that ever work out?
I will agree that you can't lose to Georgia State. We stopped them 3 times only to have the drives extended by penalties. Some legit. Some not. But it still shouldn't have been that close that it mattered. We dropped multiple TD and first downs. JG put the ball where it needed to be in some key moments. Our TE who was labled our best player during the game had 2 key drops.
I always say a coach needs 3 to 4 years to get his guys and system in place. He has his freshmen stud OL and his young RB. He seems to have his secondary and has brought in youth at LB. A few injuries and a suspension killed this defense. But again...GA State? I don't know what I think. I am certain we either need to trust JG to throw more than 3 yards or put in a freshman there too.
I know this is a ramble, but I really have no friggin clue right now.
Watch any of the practices with Pruitt. Ive been saying that since last year. Low energy and very ho hum lets just go through the emotions type atmosphere which translates to crap performances on the field. Yesterday is the perfect example of a team playing like they practice. No insider info here, but I believe Jesse Simonton said at some point recently that there wasn't a lot of chatter or energy at several of the fall camp practices. That tidbit of info on top of the lethargic mentality the players, minus Jauan Jennings, played with today (as well as the last two games of 2018) could definitely be warning signs of some major internal issues. As far as how the team looked so unprepared, it all starts at the top. I think Bob Shoop was a great example of how a bad head coach can make a very good assistant coach look completely inept. Could potentially be a similar situation with Pruitt and his staff.
I think you can get by with that type of practice if you are fine tuning a well running team to focus on details nearing perfection. You cannot operate that way when you are changing culture and trying to turn inferior players into a useful team.Watch any of the practices with Pruitt. Ive been saying that since last year. I got ridiculed for making that same statement. when you think about it however, you have to realize this guy grew up hating Tennessee. I'm sure he hated Rocky Top. He hated the fans. And now all of a sudden he's coaching here. When you consider he did not want to go out and meet fans and do the Caravan and his complete lack of emotion or anger at what's going on with the team ,it does make you wonder
Still think his heart is not completely in it. It's like dating that girl that everybody else passed over when you really wanted the prom queen. I just don't see the passion. And a lot of times to the team play mimics the coach.Naw man I was joking. He's competitive and wants to win just like everyone else, regardless of school. You don't go down this profession without loving your kids/team, and loving football. There's no way he, or anyone else, intentionally tanks their team; not at any level, and especially not at this level.
You are correct! It’s just that simple but people don’t want to admit it!Yep. Everyone is looking for some hidden reason for the result today, but the fact of the matter is that we just have a bunch of players that aren't very good. The youth on the team is much better than the older players but the just aren't ready yet. It's going to be another couple of years before we start to see things improve. Flip the damned roster as quickly as possible.
