Is there more to this?

And all of Volnation stating said players are being recruited over.

Gotta like the pumpers.
Most of the time players that leave aren’t playing much. Just facts. More times than not the move is for playing time more than money. Not all the time but more times than not. GBO

No. This happens to every team. You just follow THIS team.

We will hit the portal and upgrade. And some of these guys were probably told to hit the portal.

Who has left that wasnt stealing money from UT? Heard was OK, but not worth what he made over two years here and no one else that I have seen enter the portal did diddly poo on the field. Honestly, i didnt see too many players in the last part of the season who would be returning that did play all that hard. Yes, there were some, but not many.

You Fulmer haters are just lucky he wasn’t given a sabbatical. Had he been given one, you wouldn’t have reason to hate.

It’s not like he suddenly forgot how to coach.
Yeah, and after he had a year or two away, all of those other schools realized the ability and away he went.
This just shows how much college sports has changed. In today’s world, no way a previous NC coach isn’t offered $Ms to coach somewhere

I don't see quality coaches staying in College much longer. This has to be exhausting for them, trying to maintain and strengthen a roster.

Where would they go, NFL? It is basically the same thing right now. In fact, in some ways, rebuilding a roster so quickly might be favorable for most coaches versus recruiting players based on star ratings and hoping they pan out.

Nothing to it other than young men not getting what they want and taking their ball and going home.

Heard was going to be bumped to RT so that Sanders could take over at LT. He boo hoo’d and hit the portal.

Gibson again tried to leverage the program for more money after sitting out injured last year. Same games he’s played before. Hit the portal.

We just needed him here more than those other schools did. That’s why he became AD.

Really? You pay me 9MM a year and I'd be willing to put up with a lot of garbage.

These coaches are ridiculously overpaid compared to the complexity and work effort of their jobs. And they know it better than most. No one is going anywhere.

Most have been making 3-5 m a year for a decade and when invested correctly.. their kids, kids won't have to work again. Money is great; but only to a certain point and then it's just a tool to grow more money.

That's just how it goes. Except for Georgia, and Ohio State, teams in the playoff were 40 percent or more rostered by players from the portal. Several were in the 60 percent range. It's how the game is played now. Let players prove themselves at smaller schools, and then sign with larger ones. You just have to have a staff good at evaluating talent. Knowles appears to be quite good at it on the defensive side. Cignetti and Clark Lea are also apparently pretty good at it.

You don't make $9M when you start out and those who can get to that level are usually pretty good coaches.

Most of us would get fired from HS or JUCO because we can't coach.

I got fired as a PeeWee coach once. I never played high school football but had volunteered because no one else would do it. It got pretty bad, lost the first 3 games. Had a couple little fellows try to hit the portal. Parents revolted. Talked some guy, who had ridden the bench for 4 years at the local school, into taking the job. I think what sealed the deal for him was the offer of free, unlimited access to the concession stand. He didn't fare much better. Ran what was described locally as the "Run Amok" defensive scheme. He was a big Vols fan and attended several coaching clinics, especially he sessions about coaching defense. He did manage to win one game, by forfeit, as the other team didn't show up. One tactic he devised was having.all eleven of his players hit the ground with a fake injury at the same time. That was quite a scene.

Welcome to the new era of college football. Guys want to play, if they don’t believe they’re going to get that opportunity, they’re gone. Coaches want players who will contribute. If they don’t believe someone is good enough to do so, they’ll cut them loose.
Gibson and Heard are both starters. I think it’s about money, or perhaps coaching shakeups. Personally, if Martinez is as my coach and I learned a new guy with less than a 4th of the experience than my current coach is coming in to coach me, I’m following the other coach or finding another place to play. Maybe the new guy will be even better, but why screw around with your own career when you know the one coach has taught you so much and has put a lot of guys into the league?

That's an interesting point. If I were one of them, then yeah, I'd be retiring very very quickly. But we don't see that.
