I’m all for criticism if it’s not to the point where it evolves into whining. Like here’s my criticism: This coaching staff used today’s game as a scrimmage basically. They played as many players as possible with no real game plan and very basic play calling. They had no counter to Ga St because they were unprepared. Talent alone is what they hung their hat on for a game plan. That backfired and now we walk away with our tails between our legs. Instead of having a clear cut GP and putting the game away early we screwed around playing as many players as possible which never allowed for any unit on this team to find cohesion. Next week we ought to define starters on both sides of the ball, open up the playbook and actually scheme based off what BYU has shown so far.Doesn’t mean you don’t have optimism either. Do you go into every season saying “well we’re going to suck again.” No. Because you think this team might use some of those millions of dollars they spend on getting better. There was no evidence of that today at all. You may call it “whining,” but criticism at this point is warranted.
This is what was running through my head all game long. If I posted that I knew I was gonna get grilled for it. Still goes to show that we can't rely on just talent one rn. Gotta coach the freshmen upI’m all for criticism if it’s not to the point where it evolves into whining. Like here’s my criticism: This coaching staff used today’s game as a scrimmage basically. Talent only gets you so far. I mean that was about a vanilla of an offensive playbook as I’ve seen since Mike Deboard was the OC. We just didn’t have the correct preparation, especially on defense. Ansley genuinely looked confused because he had no idea what Ga St was gonna run at any point today. He was just praying he made the right calls. It cost us the game. We may have only put up 30 but we should have never allowed Ga St more than 7. This defensive coaching staff was out coached plain and simple. This is what was running through my head all game long. The program won't shut down. Decisions like that would involve political considerations far away from Knoxville. But this loss is BIG. This is probably bigger than the Wyoming and North Texas State losses.I know it’s been said, but I never really got it until today. We have simply become the 1980s-2000s Vanderbilt before Franklin got there. No one expects us to beat them. Period. Gonna be embarrassing to only house 40-50k a game in a stadium that holds 102k. If decommits start happening, fans stop showing up, what’s gonna keep this program from shutting it down ?
No, the only way the program will ever get turned around is when the university is prepared to give someone a blank check. No coach that could turn this program around wants to play Florida, Georgia, Bama, and another SEC west team along with a solid to elite P5 team nearly every year with above average in state talent for 3-5 million a yearRealistically could we get someone like Peterson or Patterson ?
Gray, Crouch, and Keyton likely leave also. Wouldn’t be surprised if Taylor transfers eitherAnd with modern college ball the way it is, we also lose some prized underclassmen. I don't think Wright/Morris and To'oto'o are going to throw away promising college careers with UT's continued marriage to mediocrity.
Start the players that want to be here..... if they don't want to play sign their transfers immediately and show them the door!!! I'd rather lose with all freshman giving 100% than watch some of the shat I saw today!!
