I've been thinking about this since sjt, who I respect as a knowledgeable poster, mentioned CBJ and our yearly injuries. I don't believe S&C can prevent injuries. I do believe they can decrease the likelihood of severe soft tissue injuries. Broken bones and concussions can't be avoided with lifting or stretching.
So, what is it? My theory(ies): 1. our starters play longer compared to other teams which increases the odds an injury is sustained. Fatigue, poor technique, and the sheer number of cumulative minutes playing a violent contact sport. They play longer because our games come down to the wire which requires using our 1s. Blowouts allow for 2s and 3s to come in.
2. our blocking scheme seems to bunch all the big uglies up. I may be imagining this but the spacing between o line players is narrow when compared to other teams. The proximity means increased chances of feet tangling up and sprains. Also, it means there isn't as much free space as players hit the turf so the standing players are more likely to have the downed players roll up on their lower legs.
That's all I could think of.
