Is now the time to help recruiting by polishing Pruitt's language skills?

If UT wins, his lack of grammar will he seen as folksy and endearing, innocent southern charm.

If UT loses, his lack of grammar will be seen as unpolished, lazy and ignorant.

Right now, UT is losing, so...
Was just telling somebody the same thing this morning. What makes coaches endearing is the same thing that makes them annoying.

I vividly remember people getting mad when I posted in about 2014 that Butch Jones was a walking cliche machine. People liked brick by brick. By 2017, we were Champions of Life with a turnover trashcan and it had gotten old.

Mom's want to know that a university can polish their child to help them succeed outside of football.

What does it say about Tennessee as a school if they can't polish Pruitt's English?

He makes a few systematic errors. A good speaking coach could fix it in 1 hour a week over 4 weeks.

Does Tennessee have anyone like that?
mom's with an apostrophe (that's the little floating-in-the-air thingy)
possessive: "Someone make a liquor store run! Mom's bottle is almost empty!"
contraction: "Someone make a liquor store run! Mom's drunk up almost all her whiskey!"

moms without an apostrophe:
plural: "Someone make a liquor store run! All the moms are nearly out of whiskey!"

Also, "Tennessee as a school" needs it, not they, as a pronoun, as it is a singular noun.

That's all I've got.

I don't think Pruitt is very smart and that worries me. Most successful head coaches are pretty smart guys. A coordinator can be the dumb football stereotype, but it's pretty rare to see a successful head coach who comes off as just a dumb jock. Whoever pointed to Ed Orgeron, let's see how that continues to work out for LSU.

The fact that we had to call a timeout after our last td should worry every UT fan. It tells me Pruitt can't subtract 15 from 31 in his head and also hadn't considered whether he would need to go for 2 during that drive.

And Butch Jones is a functional idiot. He is not smart. Dooley is intelligent, but proves that intelligence alone doesn't make someone a good head coach. Dooley's intelligence worked against him because it was clear he always felt like he was the smartest guy in the room. No one wants to be lead by a smarmy prick.

It actually IS a factor with some parents.

So let me get this straight, there are kids and parents who are good with the thought of playing for some scumbag dripping in scandal at Ohio State, or Penn State after the child rape cover up, for raging maniac muschamp, or even ed orgeron who literally no one understands, but the thought of Jeremy pruitts grammar is the line they won't cross? Lolol....

I didn't say they wouldn't cross that line. You are saying things I didn't say. Yes, definitely, it can be a factor in some families.

It blows my mind that people keep saying this. Did you people honestly think that Butch Jones came off as well spoken and intelligent? He always sounded like a complete moron to me that was unable to think on his feet and form a coherent sentence. All his canned responses made him sound like a complete idiot.

Have you not heard how a lot of teenagers speak or write in today’s world? Get on Twitter or Facebook and get a good look. When I try to understand some them in print form, I feel like I need an interpreter. True, mom’s want their children the best education that they can get, but it all starts at home. If Pruitt’s sounds like a country bumpkin (that some you make out), how has it not hurt his recruiting abilities at other schools? And before you come back to that he was at a winning program, there are other winning programs that he won the recruiting battles against.

I have no idea whether Pruitt's "folksy" speaking manner will hurt or help him in recruiting. I do think there are probably recruits/parents out there that are more comfortable with a coordinator speaking like that than a head coach, who is supposed to be the ceo of the program.

Frankly, I don't care too much about how Pruitt speaks as long as he is intelligent and has "football smarts." So far, I haven't seen too much evidence of his intelligence. He seemed to get frequently out-coached and had a hard time with late game clock management, risk/reward decisions, and simple math.

This is ludicrous. Coach Pruitt does not give a s--- what you think of his speech, dialect, tone, temperament, vocabulary, etc..bla, bla, bla... He is the Head Coach of TN because he is what he is and WON! He did not get here appeasing every possibly offended person. He told them this is what it takes to win and if you don't do it, don't blame him. He has won. What has TN won? But we blame him. He has won and he is telling us what needs to be done to win but we ignore that he had WON and think he does not no S----. So we say maybe if you weren't so country talking you could Win. I'M ebarrassed at the stupidity, the pampered offended that makes up alot of what TN has become. I will be happy to support a team of 2 stars that play thier heart out for a coach that tells them the truth and loves cornbread even if he thinks Tolstoy is a movie about toys coming to life. He knows what it takes to win. If we ignore him, who is stupid and ignorant? We paid him millions to win. Let him WIN and stop the second guessing and let him do his job which will take time with everyone crying thier butt hurts.

Mullen’s goofy and dances like a retarded otter. His classes will be better now but he’s not a good recruiter.

I’m thrilled that he’s our coach. The dancing thing was to try and loosen Franks up as he was still playing super uptight and timid early in the year. Judging by Franks’ play during the back half of the season, Mullen is a genius. And I don’t think he’s “goofy” at all.

Regarding recruiting, I’m predicting now he’ll have an outstanding class this year and beyond. His Florida recruiting will be much better than his Miss State recruiting, especially with FSU and Miami in the toilet.

Going for two early in the game is always wrong. At one point Tennessee would’ve been behind by fourteen points but instead had earlier gone for two so they then had to go for two again to tie. Should’ve been 17-31 in your example.

No, it's really not a factor. And if it were, it would be in such a small percentage that it still doesn't matter.

This is pretty dumb. Can he can coach and win while the kids stay out of trouble. That is the only thing that matters.
