I think he's coming to help his son out. He only has a few years left but a failure at UT would almost kill LK's coaching career before his 40th birthday. Take the defense out of the equation and just run the O.

OK, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt for a minute here. Do you care to elaborate on where you heard that the players have known for a week about Lane and Monte Kiffin?

not just for defense but for sage counsel for the youngster. And the Vols ABSOLUTELY need a good QB coach. Without a good QB, your are $hit:hi:, as we've seen very well this year,

Lou Holtz just said, "Monte Kiffin is the best coach I've ever coached with." Then he added, "He makes over $1M a year now."

As said before at 68 he has nothing left to prove and has maxed out his retirement. I highly doubt money is an issue.

or...since he's gettin in his high 60's and this could be his only chance to coach with his son before it's his time to go, that could be enough to get him to come.

Hey, if it takes an old dude looking death in the face to get a kick ass defensive coordinator, that works for me.

100% agree. Plus hes not getting any younger so coaching with his son now is the best time to do it

I would be completely shocked if money were an issue at all with the elder Kiffin. Some people do reach a point in life where there are more imporant things than money.

Monty made 1.5 million in 2005. I don't see him walking away from that to be an DC in college for ~400k. Cutcliffe made 340k his last season as OC at UT.
