Is Marquez North headed towards underachieverville?

Meachem got a new position coach. Say what you will about Trooper, but he put Meachem in the pros. Dude couldn't catch a cold before Troop.

Shame Troop was such a divisive person, he was an excellent position coach.

Not sure North will see a new coach in his time here

Very good point.

I don't care if it is young guns or old guns, I just want to see a better passing game..especially downfield!

I said this on another thread, i think the staff has moved on from these underachieving upperclassmen. They are gonna start focusing on our young hungry receivers that want it like JJ and Preston. I could care less about them as well at this point. Croom, North, even Pig doing nothing this year so far. Make room for the young guns, you saw what Preston is gonna be doing for the rest of the year in the 2nd half of WCU.

Yeah, but who was under center when Williams was making plays?

O line is not giving us time to run the proper routes... BUT, Dobbs should have the legs to give them another couple of seconds to finish said routes, so i don't know what is going on... I think we have one of the tallest, heaviest groups of WRs in the country and they are being wasted...

There have been plenty of passes from Dobbs that could have been "big splash plays" that our receivers have yet to convert this year. We need to see more from our receivers. All of them.

We have all sorts of talent at the WR position and all are underachieving. If it was just him, I would say it is a Croom problem. But, because it is not just him, I would have to say the problem is elsewhere.

If all the wr's appear to be underachieving, maybe wo ought to put a little blame on Dobbs. North was wide open for a TD agant Western but #11 practically threw it into the stands on the play before the interception against OK, North was wide open thirty yards downfield waiving his arms. If you compare his numbers before and after Dobbs it is hard to say that North is underachieving.

Very true, the ENTIRE WR corps has to step it up and finally start producing! Although injured, Jason Croom has been a MAJOR disappointment. With his size and athleticism, he should be making corner end zone fades for TD's with EASE.

I miss the days of Chris Hannon, Meachem, Jayson Swain and Brett Smith....now those guys were the real deal!

Umm...Meachem was a top tier guy, but Hannon was average at best with Swain slightly above average. The real deal guys were in the 80s and 90s.

He is already there! Maybe he is to blame or not, but been a long time waiting on him to be a factor in A game.

What a shame. Arguably best roster of WR in the country and Dobbs can't throw them the ball because he isn't good and OL can't protect him. Would've won if we had any passing game to speak of vs Oklahoma.

Dormady starts next year, mark it down.

I dont know guys, I am really starting to worry and wonder about this guy. He shows no flashes of being a superstar. Hell, he barely gets the ball thrown to him! This guy had the making of another Alshon Jeffery, but something has happened and its very alarming. Do they not know how to use him? Is he simply underachieving. This guy should be lighting up secondaries..that is the kind of expectations that comes with being a 5 star blue chip recruit! Hell, hes not even a poor man Robert Meachem at this point!

Am I being too harsh and rash, or do I have a valid point?

The whole WR unit is underachieving honestly. I think it's more on the OC not calling passing plays than anything.

The first issue is that Jones wants to establish the run, so that's accounts for about 55+ percent of our plays right there. Second, we have a lot of receivers--and we seem to throw to a lot of them, Malone more than anybody in the first two weeks, and of course Williams has entered the picture--I think he is faster than North. Third, I don't think our coaches--Debord and Azzani do not have a handle on our passing game. We need to find three WRs who can get it done consistently and stick with them, for the most part, maybe using a couple of others in a subsidiary role. This week will be the acid test for everybody associated with the offense--players and coaches.

Stop making excuses for North and blaming the coaches for everything, he rarely gets separation from db's if you watch him during the game.

That could still be coaching. You learn to beat the jam, run perfect routes, etc. Most of the WR don't seem to get separation. He has been wide open a few times and Dobbs didn't capitalize.

If everyone else was wide open and he wasn't I'd agree. They all seem to struggle.

500 yards as a true freshman in the SEC on a bad team- he must have skills.

I think it must be scheme, position coaching or injury.

Right now our two best receivers are 2 freshmen with one month of practice under their belt.... basically they havent
unlearned how to play the position yet.

I think its a case of the Vols having too much talent at the position. Not enough passes to go around for all of our WR's. We have several guys who could be number 1 WR's on other teams. North, Pearson, Malone, Pig, Preston Williams,Jennings. When you have that many very talented players and only throw the ball 20-25 times a game its hard to get everyone touches. Tight ends get a few of those balls plus guys like Josh Smith and Johnathan Johnson. We need one guy to step up as the "go to guy" but no one has yet. It was pig last year, hopefully by the end of the year we will have found that guy. I don't blame North, I blame the situation. But you cant have too much talent.

Was open for another Td Saturday but Dobbs gunned it over his head by 6 ft. He has been open several but Dobbs hasn't even looked his way. I am not sure the problem but we need to get the ball in the hands of our Wr's.

This is spot on. Many on here have been quick to blame Debord for not throwing in the middle of the field or downfield in general. The reality of is that Dobbs is not finding the open receiver. Saturday, there were multiple instances where he didn't see a receiver wide open. The touchdown pass he threw to Preston is an example. Josh Malone was WIDE open on a post on that touchdown play(which was just a great adjustment by Preston).

Something has happened with Dobbs and I do not know exactly what it is. He is bailing out too quick from the pocket as well.

Not at all, I mean two games in for this season let's cut our losses and kick him to the curb (Blue - really blue - font)
