You know who would be a good play by play announcer I'd love to listen to? Mike Goldberg(does UFC, and Arizona Cardinals preseason games)

Yeah, he has a solid voice and good presentation and enthusiasm.:good!:

Take a listen to Auburns broadcast next week. Better to be bored to death than screeched at.

Jim Hawthorn (LSU) is the best now that Ward is gone. If you get the opportunity---listen to a night game on 870--wwl. Hawthorn is really good, and the broadcast as a whole is top notch. Sounds like the good ole days, even though I am not an LSU fan----(but I pull for the Tigers over most of the rest of the SEC.) There is something really special about listening to CFB radio broadcast done well.

When I was a kid in the '60's I would listen to LSU at night and a guy named John something do their play by play. That was great radio in the day and I have always had LSU as my 2nd favorite team.

John Fergusson (sp) John also did the SEC bb game of the week. John and Joe Dean. Like Ward at UT, listening to LSU was an event. Hawthorn took over in 82.

I knew it was going to be a long game when he admitted he couldn't see the players on the field shortly after kickoff. I felt bad for Jeff Frances when Randy kept going on and on about how it should be second down after the Janzen Jackson fumble. The guy said it three or four times before Frances finally told him that the ball changed possession therefore it was a first down for Ohio. It just ridiculous that he is getting paid to announce the game and has to have the rules explained to him on the air.

I was driving yesterday morning and ESPN radio was playing touchdown calls from around the nation. Of course each call was from the hometown radio voice ie Eli Gold for Bama, etc. I was impressed by almost all of the ones I heard. The sad part is when they play the Vols the voice you hear is Kesling.

He is the WORST!! It makes me want to puke so i don't listen.

Kesling is the Worst...He can't even get his facts right during the game..I refuse to listen on the radio because of him. Some times I wonder if he is watching the same game.

I wish we could get rid of him...

We were spoiled by John Ward, but yeah Kesling was a poor replacement. I used to turn the tv sound down too listen to John Ward. I can't listen to Kesling at all.

I still mute the TV and listen to the Vol Network. Better than any of the TV talking heads in my opinion.

Randy Smith was indeed atrocious on Saturday but Jeff Francis was surprisingly clueless also. He didn't know what the ruling should be on the fumble recovered by a player who was standing out of bounds, was surprised that Tennessee would have the football.

The problem with Mike Keith is that he sounds like an adolescent has hijacked the microphone, especially on big plays.

Yes, god forbid he be enthusiastic in his calling of the game. At least his excitement seems genuine unlike Keslings mailed in "Into the checkerboards" crap.

In my opinion, yes.

I just can't recall another broadcaster trying to sound so enthusiastic and failing so miserably.

I imagine that if I were to suddenly get into the broadcasting business and got hired to call Florida or Bama games, I would announce touchdowns with all the gusto of a person who really wasn't a fan of the team... because, y'know, I'm not a Florida or Bama fan.

That's what Kessling sounds like to me. I don't really mind the "into the checkerboards" line, but his delivery absolutely sucks. It sucks so bad that every Monday during football season, there seems to be a new thread talking about how bad Kessling sucks. That's a testament, I think, to how bad he truly does suck as a radio guy.

If John Ward used "into the checkerboards," it would be everybody's favorite line because John Ward is(was) a Vol fan who lives and dies with every other Vol fan on each down played. Even if John Ward were NOT a vol fan, his ability as a radio announcer would make you believe that he was.

Kessling is incapable of that kind of broadcasting.

Kessling is the Jon Crompton of radio broadcasting.

Sad that we all keep saying the same thing over and over each Monday.

Randy Smith is garbage, doesnt know Brown from Hardesty or who has the ball or who is winning. I like Kesling myself, wish he was a little more passionate but also wish we had a QB.

Relax guys, it will be over soon. I have an inside source who tells me that Kesling will be replaced by Jimmy Hyams starting next year.

Anyone ever wondered how empty this board would be if whiners and complainers were barred? It would cut back the population of the posters by at least 75%.
