Is Josh Palmer key against Georgia

I think we need to just keep trying to force every other pass to Keyton even though he never catches them. Seems to be working so far.

He's key every game I feel. He's our go to guy and he and JG seem to be timed up together. GA is good enough defensively to play man on him with a safety always shading his way. I think Keyton has a big coming out party and uses his size speed combo effectively.
Took the words out of my mouth. Palmer needs to be key for every game. Get 6+ catches, some 3rd down move the chain completions and some 20 yard plays. Get about 60 to 75 yards per game. Be a solid contributor and leader for the WRs.

UT is completing only 33% of passes that travel more than 15 yds. Receivers have been open. One third of those throws have been "uncatchable". That has to improve for UT to have a chance in this game. UT must throw downfield and it has to be credible. Otherwise, UGA will keep everything in front and smother the run game.

compared to other top 10 teams, what is the average % for passes >15 yards?

He's shown some mobility though. Hope Shamburger is back. He could be a huge difference in this game.
He has, but I've seen a lot of UGA fans say he was instructed not to run. I don't know how much truth there is to that tho. I didn't watch much of their game so I don't know what to make of that. I hope Shamburger is back too and our secondary as a whole improves this week. I was impressed with what I saw of Kenneth George last week. If he, Taylor, Thompson, and Shamburger can play up to the level I know they can, we should be fine. Our db's should be the strength of the defense and so far they've been less than impressive imo.

The fact that Malzahn hired an OC that didn't win a single SEC game as a head coach tells you all you need to know about Malzahn as a head coach.
Never judge a coordinator by their performance as a head coach. It is a good OC hire. He would be a good head coach in just about any other conference. Arkansas was a complete rebuild.

I am withholding my praise for VJonesjr. He needs to produce. Now is the time.

Sorry, but if I'm a head coach there is no way I am going to hire an OC who was 0-16 as a head coach in my conference. Malzahn hired him because he is a friend. Another bad reason to hire somebody unless they have proven their worth. Auburn's offense has looked inept in both games so far. That falls squarely on Morris.

UT has more than enough talent for the goal to be to spread it out. The less one guy is the "key" the better the team will be.

Josh PalmerWR6-2210Sr.3LBrampton, Ontario (Canada)St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.

I feel like JG has to get the ball to him in this game. The secret weapon that many doesn’t know that, he will have a huge game. If he does, I feel we will win. I feel like he is going to be able to beat his corner, and catch some huge passes for big chunks of yardage. I say close to 100 yards in receiving for the afternoon. I think Chaney and Pruitt finds a way to get the ball to him. What do you say??

If not Palmer, Hiatt. I don't think UGA has anyone in their secondary that can keep up with either of them. JG has to get the ball in their hands will be the question.

There is one thing that hasn't been mentioned that I think would really really help the Vols. We need to strike first and play with a lead. If we can get up it will force Georgia out of their offensive game plan and then we can force their qb to make a mistake. They won't be able to just run it over and over if they are down.

As well as Georgia played Saturday, yes, Palmer and everyone on the team will be key on Saturday.
True.. But this is the same way Georgia has looked under Kirby, and then turns around and loses at home to the Gamecocks last year.

I want to make a recruiting observation on UGA, 2018 they had over 50% of the recruits from Georgia, after that its been averaging 25%............just saying for a talent-rich state, not too much loyalty to the homeboys. I know UT is not much better on the % side, but Tennessee is not known as a "talent-rich state"...........yet. I took a peek at Auburn's OL and DL, I am not sure how they run their S&C program, but they have been recruiting undersized players on the OL and DL..........not all, but enough to be concerned if your Auburn.

Have a great day!

Go Vols
Pruitt has been getting players now out of Georgia, and I think we are stealing recruits from them. Our state I think is really starting to boom with players, and growing. The recruiting grounds in the middle Tenn. area has really picked up steam. I think we’re better than Auburn, at every position and we will see this on Saturday. I still say Palmer and JG rolls in this game.

We will need more than just Palmer to play well if we are to beat UGa I like what I saw with #11, but still was not impressed with #80 Would not be be surprised to see some direct snaps to Holiday for some sweeps or roll out options plays. He is scary fast. We might even see a pass to a TE just to mix up things.
I think we mix it up just like you said. If Palmer can get open, in which I think he will, he is going to have a big day. Keyton needs to catch balls, and not drop them. Brandon Johnson is quick as well.

Keyton may play well with it being in Georgia. He has got to catch JG passes though. JG can’t be over throwing to him. I think he had a better game last week of not over throwing. I’m sure they have been working on that.

Statcat just does SEC.

Jones- 63%
Corral- 56%
Trask- 56%
Costello- 55%
Brennan- 54%
Bennett- 47%
Wilson- 42%
Bazelak- 40%
JG- 33%
Nix- 33%
Hill- 33%
Franks- 33%
Seals- 17%
Mond- 17%

JG is not last, and the difference could mean 1-3 catches, to be fair, some of his deep balls were catchable. What was his % last year?

Yes. 33%. I believe I limited that stat to 10 attempts.
What was his % last year?
42.67%. Just not something he's done well... and continues to not do well. As Fr, Maurer and Shrout were even worse.

JG was 5th in the SEC in that stat last year. However when statcat evaluated "accuracy" JG was 12th.

Hmmm, well, as long as UT wins.............does it really matter? 🤣😂🤣
