Freely entering the portal is entirely different than player representatives actively shopping their player during the season. It's you that doesn't understand it with your BS claims concerning hypocrisy. You try to create negative spin on the Vols at every opportunityYeah I'm sure other programs and their fans will consider that.
Yes I'm sure all of these players are "freely" entering the portal with no tampering whatsoever. We are squeaky clean in this whole process.Freely entering the portal is entirely different than player representatives actively shopping their player during the season. Theoretically you are absolutely right. However, the nuance is in how it makes the program look. If we poach someone, then there is the potential for negative press for the team and that will trickle down to recruits. I'm not sure that's the reputation we need right nowThe player decided to hit the transfer portal not the other way around.
Wrong or not, Heupel’s job is to put a winning team on the field. Not fair to the fans or the team to not try to get someone. A bad season gets him far more issues than getting someone else’s qb.
How can people be so damn off? Recruits want to winTheoretically you are absolutely right. However, the nuance is in how it makes the program look. Only Alabama and a few others will accuse the Vols and Heupel of poaching and how wrong it is, if they do. Anything Alabama is against, we should be for. Anything Alabama is for, we should be against. Who cares what they think? Of course, they and Saban are pretending to be on Tennessee's side over the Nico thing. Don't believe them, they are only doing so because they know it hurts Tennessee. They will be using the Nico situation negatively in recruiting against Tennessee while at the same time publicly acting like they support Heupel.
If they or anyone have a chance to bring in a top QB at any time, they'd do it (and they should), but if the Vols do it there will be a full court press on how wrong and unethical the move would be from Heupel. They're good with pretending to support Heupel as long as it gives them the advantage. Just like when Saban thought Jones, Dooley and Cornbread were perfect coaches for Tennessee. Of course he did, because he beat the **** out of them. Again, whatever they say/think just do opposite.
I'm not saying we are or aren't squeaky clean. You're simply making claims on a broad generalization of the process. As a matter of fact, many of the players enter the portal because they want to move into a starting role for another team instead of sitting the bench for their current teamYes I'm sure all of these players are "freely" entering the portal with no tampering whatsoever. If we take Altmyer from Illinois, he's QB1 there. He's leaving for ???? better exposure, like being a starter in the B1G isn't good exposure? better coaching, for one year?I'm not saying we are or aren't squeaky clean. Has he declared for the portal yet? If not, you would be correct. If we take Altmyer from Illinois, he's QB1 there. He's leaving for ???? better exposure, like being a starter in the B1G isn't good exposure? better coaching, for one year?
We'd be offering better money, primarily.
We're left hating a player who leaves because we didn't meet his money demands then getting a player who almost certainly left Illinois because they didn't match the money we offered.
It's definitely "part of the same hypocrisy."
We do exactly what everyone else is doing. Get the best players we can get.Just wondering. I know we were left out to dry in an unfortunate situation for ourselves. But if we wait until the last moment to poach another team's QB, than that team won't have any time left in the transfer window to convince another's team's QB to enter the transfer portal.
This whole situation is about to turn into a gane of hot potato with a ticking time bomb. One team is going to be left with having their QB taken at the last moment with no viable option to replace them.
Money makes all of these scenarios a normal route of decision making. It was not normal before NIL, but anything is legal now (in the wild, Wild West) of college football.Just wondering. Or “I know it was you Nico. You broke my heart”!The irony of all of this is everyone is mad at Nico for leaving our program to try and get more money. Yet that's exactly what we're wanting another QB to do to their current team to come play for us. To quote Michael Corleone in The Godfather Part 2, "we're both part of the same hypocrisy".
