Is it true that Hart

How many would want Dooley to stay next year if Kevin Steele replaced Sal as DC?

It was Steele or Sal. Dooley and Hart both agreed on Sal. I've got a strong source on that. Shannon was never contacted.

I have heard from reliable people that a deal with Randy Shannon was in place until Dooley **** on it in the 11th hour because he didn't want a big time name under him.

If you believe that, I have some prime desert land I will sell you real cheap.

Shannon wasn't close due to a couple of reasons, the main one being that he was HC at Miami while a bunch of stuff went down and we had just been thoroughly investigated by the NCAA. We couldn't go after a DC that may have penalties coming of any sort at that time.
Dooley wanted Steele. Clemson gave up a ton of points, and Hart nixed it. Sunseri is Hart's man, but Dooley didn't put up any resistance, so it was a mutual decision.

Surely, we aren't going on the word of Hyams. Come on Volnation we are better than that

So far in just this thread I've seen 487 exclamation points and a reference to Dooley as a "limpiing piece of crap" (I really hope the person who said that is 13 years old; otherwise, inexcusable). I've also seen about two links to actual news. Citing Hyams as gospel is (sadly) one of the better supported arguments. Note I said better supported, not well supported.

Who cares who was coming. Who cares if Hart, Dooley, Wilcox, Kiffin, Fulmer or the Ghost of Patrick Swayze picked Sunseri. I just want better defense. Don't care if Sunseri figures it out, someone buys a "Teaching Defense for Dummies" book or they hook a game of Madden up out on the field and let it randomly pick defensive plays. UT might have to score 200 over the next three games to win, and Missouri, Vandy and Kentucky all have much better defenses than Troy.

Go Vols.

Seemed like Skeeter tells the story differently. That Sunseri was Hart's guy.

From what I have seen and heard - if skeeter says it's so ... it's so. Like taking it to the bank.

It is also very, very unusual to have a proven DC leave and replace them with an unproven linebacker coach. The only common connection is Hart - plus Hart would have to either have been the force behind hiring CSS or else he would have had to endorsed it.

-- just connect the dots.

Sal and Dooley were at LSU together. Throw Saban, Hart, Kevin Bacon and there you go. Dots connected.

Was the deciding factor on hiring Sunseri? Jimmy Hyams said this morning that Dooley had a verbal agreement with Kevin Steele and then Clemson's defense gave up 70 points in their bowl game. Hart apparently stepped in and was instrumental in Sunseri becoming our DC. If that's true, no wonder Hart is sitting back waiting on Dooley to implode after he loses one of these last 3 games.

This thread is similar to another so I'm gonna post my same response.

Not sure who hired Sal but he sucks. We would possibly be 8-1 right now, no worse than 7-2 if we had any defense at all. Yes, with Dooley as head coach. Our offense isn't our problem. Even special teams are not our problem. Our defense is horrific and is the reason we are 4-5 and 0-5 in the SEC. Sunseri should be fired tomorrow and hopefully we can let one of the other Def assist. be the DC for the rest of the season. No way any of them can do any worse. Sal is clueless.

This wouldn't shock me. I remember hearing how Randy Shannon was in the bag. Hopefully we can just fire Dooley and get it done with. Tired of that limping piece of crap wearing orange.

just because some idiot on VN writes it doesn't make it true, noone on this board knows $H1T. and any post that mentions a "reliable source" is code for "I'm making this up"

true. I know someone, former UT player, that knows Shannon and he talked to him. He never heard from UT

Larry, I don't dispute that UT never contacted Shannon, but it was purported that intermediaries contacted Shannon on behalf of the University...can you confirm or deny that?

(legit question....there seems to be some discrepancies between some typically reliable posters)

Exactly right. UT NEVER looked at Shannon. That's why I laughed so much at all the "insiders" on here claiming Shannon was coming to UT.

some of you would waste a lot less time typing dumb speculations on this board if you would pay to have a subscription at volquest or scout.

Idk anything about the situation, but when The commentators said, during the bama game, the sal basically said he didn't know if he could game plan against Pitt in a bowl game, I thought he had no business coaching anywhere in the SEC

I would think it would be because his son is the QB and it would be hard to compete agasint your son and gameplan him.
