I said yes but he would have to lose every game including Vandy.
there is also a chance saban could be fired next year. He just needs to lose every game the rest of this year and next year.

the financial hit to the athletic dept from covid wont be anything like the hit it will receive from the apathy of fans if pruitt is still here, tn fans have seen enough poor coaches the last 10 years to recognize one when.they see it, and pruitt is a poor coach, tn fans wont continue to blindly support this loser like they did for dooley and butch...theyve seen what that results in
I dont know that the first statement is true. Attendance alone doesn't make sense. At the most apathetic points in recent history, UT was never down to 25k in the seats and for every home from start to finish. And even if they were, a lot of those tickets and donations had already been collected prior to the season. So while seeing 70k in the stands made a statement, it wasn't remotely close to the same financial statement.
For most Ath Depts, football is the only and or biggest revenue sport in the department. Covid ended basketball last year and is going to hit this season as well from a financial standpoint, even if they are able to play the entire season. We re not even sure that covid isnt going to a problem next year yet.
Then add in buyouts for the entire staff and hiring another one. Which will probably also include hiring another AD.
So I don't buy that idea.

To the last part, whats to be said for the apathy of another coaching search at UT? We ve even figured out how to have a coup with the AD position and have made a circus out of that as well. Those bad years were the results of bad hires (plural). Who UT fans want, and what they eventually get have been shown to be 2 very different things. For better or worse, Kiffin was the last hire that I believe at least some fans would have placed at or near the top for a replacement. Johnny Majors in 1977, was the last hire UT went out and made that the majority of the fanbase was behind from the start. And it wasn't just because he come home.

I'll stick behind the idea that UT is getting further away (not closer) to making the big hire from the start. If they were ever somewhat close.
We had a window and I think its closed. Unless there is a scandal Pruitt isn't getting fired this year. And that will probably entail Fulmer being removed even before that happening.

UT fans need to hope Pruitt figures it out regardless of personal preference. They re not gonna hire who you want anyway.

I am shocked we are here already with all the talk going on... but if we end up finishing say 3-7 or get beat by Vandy and blown out by others with no big win, etc. do you think it is actually possible Pruitt is on the hot seat to be removed as head coach at the end of THIS season???

I'm not sure I can handle another coaching search already.... but what do you think?
"YOU could not handle it"???? I don't understand. He should have been let go within 2 hours after the Kentucky game ended. Big Phil should have to pay out of his pocket for the extension.

After watching Auburn what I thought was a toss up is now looking like a loss. Florida, TAMU look like losses based on what I’ve seen from the 2020 Vols. Arkansas which is more improved after 6 months than we are in the third year of a rebuild. Arkansas was horrid the last two years. Horrible.

If we go 3-7 we have to move on from Pruitt. Will we make the move that’s needed or will we allow him to drag us BB (below butch)?

Who knows what'll happen.

Just need JG benched please.

So lets see the legitimate list of HCs that would be willing to come here.

It blows my mind that you see teams with first year coaches and they can at least look like they have a pulse on offense and put up points. But year 3 here and Tennessee struggles to get past the 50 yard line. Its really embarrassing. Give Ed O some credit,at least he will switch QB. Give Lane credit,he can produce a offense and did it in what 2-3 months.

There’s hundreds. We could offer a real proven coach, but everyone is worried about a splash and winning the press conference instead of hiring someone competent. Hell we’ve had 0 trouble hiring assistants. UT powers that be are horrible at hiring coaches. We’d rather pay someone 8 million to go away instead of paying a real coach.

Thats easy to say but thinking that there re tons of good HCs that would want to come here is laughable. Its likely if Pruitt gets fired, then it will be another coordinator hire. I think most HCs will look at our track record and think nope. Also, look at Harbaugh, Taggart, Frost, Kelly, Leach etc. Proven winners arent a guarantee.

As much as he doesn’t deserve to continue coaching, Pruitt will not be fired if we finish 2-8 this year.

Let me prep you for what’s going to happen OP.

1) We aren’t firing Pruitt this year under any circumstance

2) Pruitt isn’t benching JG this year under any circumstance
I disagree with no. 2. If Bailey or Maurer get in a game and play well, JG will not start the next game.

2-8, then 0-12 and we will not fire him. I think Fulmer has been told no more paying people who arent here based on wins and losses. Fire for cause or not at all. Rest is up to Phil until he retires.

It’s the 12m buyout. If Pruitt continues to stink it up there will come a day when the UT admin will consider a buyout at a lesser amount then keeping Pruitt on. However a decision is not pending before 2022 in my opinion. A good Qb decision can reverse most of the Pruitt animosity. It’s by far the biggest problem we have as far as negative perception regarding the program.

How many weird outcomes do you need to see before you start to think that this is just going to be a weird year where week to week you don’t know what’s going to happen? Auburn looked great today... but they should have 3 losses and LSU is a disaster defensively.
This is spot on. Auburn was essentially gifted two, if not three wins this year due to very questionable and shameful officiating. Their record is not indicative of their actual play.

LSU has no offensive or defensive identity. It's like watching TN suit up in LSU gear. Except TNs defense is much better.

Are you writing the check, or are you going to the Haslam's and begging them to pay for a new coach (which they will get to choose)? I'm not sure if you're aware but the AD doesn't have any money, and Pruitt flushed $1 million more last week alone. I hate to break this to you, but you're stuck with Pruitt for at least 2 more years no matter what his record is thanks to the extension he was given.
