is it ok?

A word only has power over you if you give it the power to offend you. Sticks and stones deal. However, that being said, it is not a word that should be used period.
Giving it the uh sound instead of the err sound doesn't change the word. Just like everyone on here who uses frick, frack, or fawk. It still means the same thing.
Now that being said, we all have freedom of speech, but not the freedom to be offensive. I choose not to use any connotation of that word. JMO FWIW.

I'm a fan of "pha que" as opposed to **** you.

Really, if it weren't for the Chappelle show and a couple of skits, it would never be said.

The Niggar Family skit made me piss myself. That's where it started.

it was hilarious......I do think people get hung up on words, but honestly its not up to me to say what does and what does not offend a person.

its cool, ni, uh Bearcat.

That's why I asked the question. Figured there would be various inputs. Hell, I don't talk to one guy but about once a month or so on the phone and thats how he answers my call everytime. We've known each other for 25 years.

So if name calling is not ok, what about stereotypes?

As far as conversation? I don't really recall stereotyping stuff coming up. We're telling old stories or making plans for new ones, or discussing a sport or playing golf and talking chit while we play. No politics, religion or race conversations.

I just wanted to know in general. If using potentially inflammatory names is not ok, are stereotypes ok?

Stereotypes are what you make of them. Chappelle makes a comedy skit out of them. Some people use them for political reasons, and may use them against their opponent, or a family like the Ford family in Memphis uses stereotypes to map out a political plan to win elections. Some people are offended by them. Some people are opposite of their stereotypes and some people are the reasons whey there are stereotypes.

That's about as deep as I go there. In other words, it is what it is. There will always be stereotypes, and not just based on race. Learning impaired, handicapped, gay, whatever. It is what it is.

stereotypes are ok imo as well.......until someone gets very offended.

I used to love to hear the words and see the look in peoples faces when I played and had as high of a vertical as anyone on the court.

White boy can jump! or can play was music to my ears because the rest of my team were stereotypical, gravity bound white players that were tough and good ball players, but couldn't get off the ground. They'd all walk around in those damn duckbill shoes to stretch their calves to be able to jump and look ridiculous, or stereotypical goofy white ballplayer.
